I've said this before and I'll say it again: I believe that she will play very little golf, if any, after turning 18. I suspect she has grown to hate golf in the last two years. I don't know anyone (in person) whose parents made them play golf as kids, but I suspect that most of those people don't play as grown-ups, and if they do, they picked it up independently.

You guys got it all wrong! I predict just the opposite.

When Michelle grows into a woman instead of a goofy little girl, I look for her to pull a fairly low-key Sean O'Hair. When she is strong and mature enough to put her parents in their rightful place and take full control of her game (and not incidentally her life ) there is no reason why her considerable talents should not develop to where she is a dominant force in woman's golf.

This, of course, also presumes that she matures enough to abandoned the silly notion of becoming a dominant force in men's golf.

Certainly, if she weren't having fun with it anymore, the poor play would be a result. In fact, that 88 might be a purposeful thing -- she may well shoot it on purpose just to be out of LPGA-land for a year.

Alternately, it could be a result of parental pressure to do well. I knew kids who had parents like hers (or at least her dad; no idea where the mother is), pressuring them to do well academic-wise. I don't mean "you should do well in school," but the type of parents who viewed an A- or a 4 on an AP exam as a sign of failure. Several of these kids started failing a variety of classes (AP English fails from kids who wanted to be engineers, etc), sometimes on purpose, sometimes on account of lack of interest. The stereotype of asian parents is a reality for some, but not all, and it isn't limited to asians. But my impression of B.J. Wie certainly fits. And is professional golf as a teenager the sports equivalent of an AP class? I'm so glad my mom didn't fit the stereotype that she might otherwise be in.

Personally, I think if she were to kick it in school a little and have a few beers, get laid and maybe even partake in some other form of rebellion it may just save her from her father living vicariously through her. She needs to understand that she is in control or her. Obviously, she can't pull a Paris and keep her sponsors but she needs to kick back and chill. It will be good for her and whatever she decided to be when she grows up.
