I know when I am rushed to get to the course, it really screws me up for the first few holes.  This is playing with my buddies.  A pro with a set routine, on the PGA tour, and such a tough course....I am surprised he got the start he did. Adam Scott cut it about as close as you can.

Quote:
Few holes on the PGA Tour offer a more difficult opening shot than the par-3 10th at Congressional, which is 220 yards over the water.

For Adam Scott , it was even tougher - because it really was his first swing of the day.

Scott had an 8:02 a.m. tee time Thursday in the AT&T; National, so imagine his surprise when he awoke at 7:20 a.m. Worse yet, he is staying this week in Georgetown, which can be a 45-minute drive to the course depending on the traffic.

''Luckily, I had ironed my clothes the night before,'' Scott said with a big enough smile to make it clear he was kidding.

He wasn't smiling when he woke up. Typically a calm Aussie, Scott said he was ''jumpy'' rushing out to his car and didn't think he had any chance of making it. He arrived at 7:55 a.m., just seven minutes before his tee time. He didn't have time to warm up on the range. He might have been late to the tee, a two-shot penalty, except for starting at the 10th. Because it's a par 3, and a tough one at that, there was a five-minute delay that helped him.

He went on to hit his tee shot into the bunker, blasted out, and made par. Not bad for being so rushed!

Good point, as usually a caddie will call his player in the morning or vice versa to make sure they're awake, the alarm didn't fail, etc.

I've done that, but then again, I'm not a pro on tour.

But when I travel for business, I always have the hotel give me a wake up call every morning. Can't rely on alarm clocks.

Steve Williams is a dbag, he was probably in the bar drinking talking about Tiger at 7am.

I'd bet he was staying at the Four Seasons all the way down on M Street.  Pretty bonehead move and he's lucky it didn't take him an hour to get to the course from there.

You mean the most satisfying win of his career?

Exactly, I heard Steve might be going with Haney as his golf coach.... One day someone will break the news to Stevie and remind him he's just a pro caddie.

That is one of the worst feelings in the world... Being late to your tee time and rushing out to the first tee to take a whack at the ball.  I hate being rushed like that, and have done it many times.  In particular when I was in college, and my roommates wanted to sleep in.

Thankfully, I haven't had that issue for a long time and am usually one of the first guys at the course in the morning getting loose and hitting balls.

Imagine seeing the clock and, while in a haze, realizing you have about 40 minutes to get to the tee box while barely being awake.  I'm surprised he even tried to make it.  I may have been so nervous and embarrassed that I would have called in with a lie about having food poisoning and needing to WD.

I wonder where Steve Williams was? Probably busy giving interviews

He was at the tiger bashing press conference. Before that he was meditating by looking in the mirror.

"My ball is on top of a rock in the hazard, do I get some sort of relief?"

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
