Hello.  I just joined from Detroit.

I read here (and elsewhere) a lot of threads like:

"I need help with my driver. I used to be straight down the pipe for 330, but lately I have to back off to 290 to keep it in the fairway.  I play about 5 times a week, plus instruction and practice, but nothing I do seems to keep me back in the low 70s I used to enjoy.  Awaiting your tips...."

So where are the thread for guys that are lucky to keep it in two digits and get out to PLAY once a week, forget practice.  Who occasionally had a lesson or two a few years ago (or maybe more) and isn't 23 anymore...

You know....the 99% of actual people with a golf bag in their garage.

Just like me...

Im not sure what you're asking. Where are the threads for weekend hackers? Most people who only play once a week and dont have time for any practice probably dont have the time or devotion that most people here do. Once you join this forum you are probably beginning to take your game more seriously. I would like to think that as soon as I registered on the sand trap I dropped 10 strokes and started shooting 90s. But seriously I probably registered 6 months ago shooting 115 and have been on here daily getting tips and advice. I have never had a lesson but I practice alot more and now shooting 80s/90s.

Once somebody cares enough to join a forum and practice often you probably wouldnt be in that score range for more than 6 months to a year I would imagine.

There are also plenty of threads on here about people not being very good and shooting 100s or whatever but most questions people have at the beginning stage can be answered by a google search. Alot of threads on here are about opinions or much more technical things. Its a great place to have a question answered but it probably already has been with a quick search so no reason to start a new thread.

I have a feeling there are a lot of people like me who are exactly what you are talking about, but we never sign up/post.

I have been lurking around for months, but just registered. I am "addicted" to golf, but work/family/money restraints keep me from playing other than the weekends. I shoot mid 90s and I am thrilled with that.

I love reading everything on the forums, but never really felt like I have anything to contribute to warrant signing up. I figured I'd support the site and add another to the memeber count though :-)

Welcome Matt and Darvon, glad you decided to register and participate.  I'm a once a week player, but I do try to practice at the range at least three times a week.

Unless I'm missing something, there aren't very many guys starting threads about previously hitting it 330 and now only hitting it 290.  Maybe that's from the "other" site?

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
