I'm going to go the whole 9 yds and tell the story from the beginning, (need to start pandora now...).  Woke up this morning to work at the course I played today.  Ended up being a little slow because of a tourney going on, then I get slammed, as a clerk, with people and the telephone ringing like crazy for 2 hours non-stop.  At 2, I get off and decide to hit the back 9 because it'll be wide open because of the tourney.  At this point, I'm in need of getting some fresh air and relaxing with an ice cold beer.

So, I head out to the course with another two-some on the back.  1st hole, hit fairway and GIR, 2 putt with ball just missing cup for birdie.  2nd hole hit just right fringe of green on par 3 and sink the 30ft putt for birdie. 3rd hole almost lose my ball out to the right, hit GIR and 2 putt by just missing again for birdie.  4th hole par 5, purely killed my drive with 120 in from fairway, and somehow miss-hit my 52 and end up left of green, then chip-n-putt for birdie.  5th hole par 3, hit GIR and 2 putt for par.  6th hole hit fairway and GIR and miss low-side for birdie and get par.  7th hole, I see the beverage cart and pick up another beer because I feel the last one helped me with those 2 early birdies, par 4, hit fairway and GIR, 2 putt par.  8th hole par 4, fairway and GIR again, and leave my birdie putt less than an inch from the center of the cup! Needed just half a rotation...  Last hole par 5, I get thinking in my head holy crap this could be my best 9 holes ever, but I somehow remain calm and once again killed my driver in the center of the fairway, and have 150 in for my 2nd shot.  Hit my PW 1 1/2ft away from the pin! So, close to holing my second albatross.  But, it's always a wonderful thing to have a tap-in eagle, and most of all it was my 1st for the season!

Ended my round 4-under, 32!!  I was thinking I should just end while I'm still ahead, because I usually play the front 9 of that course worse.  Great way to end a day!

Congrats on your good play!

Wondering about that last par 5... you only had 150 left after your drive?  how long is the hole?

Yeah, I had about 152 into the middle, pin was a little short of middle, and there was a cross wind, if not a little in the face from the right to left.  Which, sounds like a good solid PW to me.

Hole is 510, drop off downhill tee shot, with water crossing fairway at 200 out from green, so I cleared the water by quite a bit. I hit it very well!

9 holes like that, it's a shame you didn't play the whole round! What's your low round? You don't get that many chances for a personal best....and I'm sorry, but 9 holes is only half of a round of golf.......

My best round is a 68, so could I have beat that? Sure, but it would take beating my best 9 holes on the front as well.  But, I guess we'll never know if I'd be able to do it or not until next time.

I work at Shuksan GC though.  Nice track, just above average difficulty and a decent length.  Lots of awesome views of Mt. Baker.

Congratulations on your great score .I personally ....cannot only play 9 holes,I know some people are time poor and others play twilight golf but to me 9 holes is like walking away from a beer halfway through...shudder..or stopping halfway through a  **** ,  it defeats the purpose of being there. You never know what could have been... 10 under for 18 or a bogey ridden back 9.Is this fast food golf ?

Some folks have other obligations. I can't be out for 4-5 hours every time, in fact I play 9 2-3 times a week and 18 maybe once every other weekend.

Apparently he hit a 360 yard drive, so if he is anywhere near honest, i'd say thats a fair PW distance for that kind of swing speed.

Why are you focusing on the distance so much? Who cares? I'm not asking you all to believe me in that I can hit the ball 300+ yards.  I like to think that I know my distances well enough and can hit my irons and driver with good enough accuracy to stay consistent.  I made this thread because it's the first time my game has truly come together for a set amount of holes.  I had 8/9 GIR, 6/7 fairways, and 15 putts.  I'd say I accomplished a goal yesterday for my season.

Did he mislead you in the title? He didn't say "best round of golf ever". He specified 9 holes.

I'd love to be at a place in my life where it's 18 holes or nothing. I'd still probably rather play 9 though - sooo boring especially when paired with turtles.

What are you talking about??? Guy made a comment that 150 was a long PW. I said if your honest and correct about your drive, I dont see why the PW thing would be shocking. I think you need to lighten the hell up. I made one damn post in this thread, effectively defending you (saying that if your drive distance was correct, theres nothing unbvelievable about your PW), and thats the post you pick to complain about? Geez, some people.

If I misread this part, then I am sorry.  I read the bolded part as being you don't think I'm telling the truth.  Thus, my comment.

    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
    • Day 580 - 2026-05-04 Played eight holes. Sometimes golf kicks you in the nuts. 😉
    • I work with a lot of golfers who want more shaft lean at impact, who currently have AoAs that range from +2° to -2°, and who love to see the handle lower and more "in front of their trail thigh" from face-on at P6. And a lot of these golfers try to solve the issue by working on the downswing. They do something to drag the handle forward. Or they just leave their right thigh farther back so the same handle location "looks" farther forward. Or they move the ball back in their stance. Or they push themselves down into the ground to get the handle lower and increase (decrease?) their AoA (to be more negative). The real fix is often to get wider in the backswing. To do LESS in the backswing. To hinge less, fold the trail arm less, abduct the trail arm less. I had a case of this over the weekend. Before, the player had 110° of trail elbow bend, "lifted" his trail humerus only a few degrees, etc. The club traveled quite a bit around him, and he tended to "pick" the ball from the fairways. In the "after" swings below (which are mild exaggerations — this golfer does not need to end up at < 70° of elbow bend. These were slower backswings with "hit it as hard as you normally would" intent downswings), you can see that he bent his elbow about 70° instead of 110° and lifted his right arm an extra ~15° or more. You can't see how much less this moved his hands across his chest (right arm abduction), but it was also decreased. His hands stayed more "in front of" his right shoulder rather than traveling "beside" them so much. The two swings look like this: The change at P6, without talking about the downswing one little bit (outside of him telling me that he tends to pick the ball), is remarkable: Without 110° of elbow bend to get out (which he gets to 80°, a loss of 30°), the golfer actually loses slightly less elbow bend (70 - 50 = 20), but delivers 30° less elbow bend, lowering the handle and letting the elbow get "in front of" the rib cage… because it never got "behind" or "beside" the rib cage. If you look at this video showing the before/afters of P6, you'll note the handle location (both vertically and horizontally) and the shoulders (the ball is in the same place in these frames). This golfer's path was largely unaffected (still pretty straight into the ball, < 3° path and often < 1.5°), but his AoA jumped to -5° ± 2°. I've always said, and in talking with other instructors they agree and feel similarly, that we spend a lot of time working on the backswing. This is another example of why.
    • We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
