Phil is just lurking, waiting for a few things to click then wham, 3 majors on the trot!

However low Phils game is (at the moment) he is still remarkably accepting of the crowd and the position they have put him in. Woods will happily walk past and ignore a kid who has spent his last few bucks on a TW hat just because he missed a putt.

Phil is classy, Bones too.

it's crazy how bad Tiger's wedge game is. Maybe he should get vokey/cleveland wedges *sarcasm* - seriously tho, 9 iron down, he's looked amateurish. Like a 10 handicap. He's still the best w/ long irons tho.

Yeah, pretty much. The VR line is basically named after his propensity for wearing red on Sundays. Honestly he could have something designed or make them rethink a product by not playing it. Take the 20xi balls; he stopped playing them and now all I hear about them is negative reviews, but many people liked them at first. If he puts something in the bag though, instant success.

That's part true. I am sure Tiger was the reason for Nike becoming as big as they are now, but now Nike has made great products and Nike is the reason for becoming a leading manufacturer. I would not be surprised if a bunch of young kids that are new to golf would buy Nike because of Tiger, but if you have been playing long enough, you buy things based on how they work for you. When i was buying my new clubs i never once thought of Tiger.

Did he ever actually play them in tournaments? I don't remember him ever taking the One Tour D out for the 20XI.

Tiger is simply a billboard for Nike; so is Michelle Wie. As long as these people get camera exposure, Nike is willing to pay the price and custom-make equipment to their specs. Nike even knows what kind of clothes Tiger will be wearing at next year's Masters, so they can get them into the pro shops on time. If you fall off the radar (like David Duval), Nike has no use for you and you will be dropped. With the exception of Tiger and Wie, it looks like Nike is getting very little exposure at the top of the leader boards of late. Most of the logos you are seeing are Titleist, Ping, Cleveland, Calloway and TaylorMade. The "swoosh" has gotten less visibility as of late.

I don't think he did, to my knowledge he's used the One Tour D and hasn't used the 20XI in a tournament.

Anyone a fan of their stuff?

One thing many people don't realize, is that the clubs that these professionals are using are not the same clubs that you are using. They often receive prototype or "one-offs" engineered specifically for them. They are tailored from head to toe from the shoes, to the clubs, to the hat. I think the only thing that they're using that you would have access to off the shelf would be the ball.

Tiger is definitely not using some stock VRS off the shelf of Golf Galaxy. He could, but he's not. You definitely cannot compare your 3 wood experience to what the professionals are using.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
    • No. But if I can still play next year, I'll almost certainly be even worse. That's the reality of not being young.🙁
