Will he still have the Oakley sponsorship? NIke seems to like to "outfit" their golfers (clothing) too, right?

Probably not since everything Oakley can provide, Nike can as well and I'm sure Nike doesn't want any other brands being worn simultaneously with their clothing line. For the other sponsors, the only other way to keep them is to put them on his bag, like his Jumeirah endorsement. Just like what Tiger did with his Fuse energy drink. And if McIlroy wants more endorsements, time to get a swiss watch deal as well.

Ryan

If Nike is going to truly sign him for $250M.... I'm guessing it is for the entire enchilada?

Rory already has a watch deal.  A beautiful one at that...

If Rory goes to Nike he wouldn't be able to wear logos for his sponsors Jumeirah Estates, Oakley, Audemares Piguet and Santander bank.  Nike typically prefers a "clean" look for it's staff players.  Like Tiger he could probably have a separate bag endorsement.

I and I used to like Rory :). It won't make me want anything-Nike. I currently do not buy anything in the Nike brand and will not as long as Tiger has something to do with them. Adidas shoes are plentiful, as are lots of other golf clubs and clothing brands.

It is strange... I don't even see where you can buy the shirts Tiger wears.  Like this one... I thought was really cool looking.  But I've never seen it in the box retail or pro shops.

They have a lot of room for improvement.

Typically you can only buy the newest releases on Nike's own site, and even then it's typically a month or two after you see it on some of the staff players.  The TW Collection seems to get refreshed/updated on Nike's site every 6-8 weeks or so.

i do and i will continue to buy Nike because Tiger "has something to do with them".  see how ludicrous we both are?

True, Tiger had Tag (may still??) as a watch sponsor, but never wore their logo as far as I know.  I was thinking Rory could do the same... Remove the AP patch on his sleeve and just wear the watch off the course, and being in their print ads.

I would think the first sponsor to be dropped would be Oakley. His watch deal with Audemares Piguet should be safe considering Tiger having a Rolex deal. The other two can be negotiated as a bag deal.

Either way, if the Nike thing doesn't work out, where else would Rory go? Mizuno still needs a solid face for golf.

Honestly, I think Rors will be with Nike, otherwise I don't think he would've left Titleist, TMAG, Mizuno or Cleveland etc etc, nobody but Nike has the money to sign McIlroy.  If he wasn't looking for a bigger deal he would still be swinging Titleist clubs.  (Technically he still is until January 1st.)

Titleist 913D2 9.5 (UST VTS 65)

Titleist 913F 15 (Diamana S+)

Titleist 913H 19 (Diamana S+)

Titleist 714 AP2 (4-PW) (DG XP-95)

Titleist Vokey SM5 (52,56,58) (DG XP-95)

I thought Mizuno's rep was that they don't shell out the big bucks for endorsements.

I haven't heard this... But it would make sense given the lack of recognizable tour players Mizzy has on staff. I think it is a 99.9% a lock that Rory is going to Nike.

It really amazes me how people go nuts over sponsors..  I could care less what deodorant, car or golf clubs some celebrity uses.. I buy products that FIT me, not what some overpaid loon tried to convince me to wear.. I tried Nike products out years ago and I stay clear of them simply because of the fit.. There are other companies I stay clear of as well because of one reason or another.. But.. celebs make a killing on endorsements because stupid fans buy what their idols tell them to buy.. Amazing.. lol

In any case good luck to Rory in whichever direction he goes.. Business is Business.. Even as much as I loathe sponsorship deals, if someone was to toss 20 million a year at me, I'd say "show me the money" and laugh my ass all the way to the bank..

I haven't heard this either, but considering their stable of players, it's probably true. It was just a thought.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
