Yesterday I only hit one green in regulation and thereby continued my stellar iron play,  The saving grace however was the fact that I am becoming more and more comfortable with Aimpoint and coupled with thinking about putting like Brandt Snedeker to keep me accelerating through the stroke, I only had 23 putts and even putts that I missed looked like they were going in as they just slid by.  Once I get my ball striking sorted back out, I will be back to my old smiling self.

Aimpoint aside, what do you guys think about the way Snedeker putts?

I love it. I tend to get a bit too long and slow with my stroke anyway, so thinking "Snedeker" helps me. I've noticed Rory and Tiger have somewhat abrupt finishes to their strokes as well.

It certainly takes work to get use to, but I like his style of putting a lot. I think it's a good way to control distance.

Insanely good putter but I don't think his technique would be good for me.  I have my best distance control when I take a somewhat long, smooth stroke.  My tendency is to be too short and stabby.

For me, putting is all tempo, If i end up taking the putter back and stop then bring it forward i putt bad. I really almost have to use a float concept, were my hands will move forward while the clubhead is moving back. I know this isn't what happens, its just a feeling i try to get. Basically it takes out all the jerky movements in a putt, really took out my bad habit of jabbing at the putts, which kills all the feel.

I don't like what looks like stabbing at a putt, so I don't enjoy watching Snedeker putt. I just thought he was wired that way.

You gotta do what you're wired to do. My setup is similar to Zach Johnson (without the backwards shaft lean), but I'm not wired with his tempo. But I'd rather watch Zach than Brandt.

One doesn't need a slow motion to put a smooth stroke on the ball.

You gotta' go with your natural tempo.

Stabbing or not, I'd wager a reasonable chunk of money that Brandt's putter's top speed is at or before he reaches the ball on the downstroke.

The best putters are actually decelerating at impact (because max speed is reached at low point and good putters strike the ball after low point).

Regarding Sned's... I don't like the way Sned's putting stroke looks.  But you can't argue the results.  He makes a lot of clutch putts.

Talking about tempo... I have the iPing app.  And my putting tempo is typically 1.6 to 1.8 (typically faster than the norm).  The average golfer is typically 2.0 with regard to tempo.  I think that is too slow - and thus my downstroke is a little quicker than the back stroke.

    • I agree with @dennyjones, a suspension of some meaningful duration would be better than getting bounced from the Tour. They might consider experimenting each week. It might generate a bit of interest. I like the idea of a visible shot clock. If a player and their caddy can’t decide on a strategy and pull the trigger in XX seconds (30? 45? 60?), one stroke penalty. Give each player 2 resets a round. The clock starts when the last player to hit’s ball stops moving. Other pace ideas could be used every couple events until a consensus is reached to adopt or ditch an idea.
