Thanks, please keep the thread up to date as you pick a date / course.  Mid March might be a little early depending on how the winter pans out.  Here's hoping that Punxsutawney Phil doesn't see his shadow.

I will keep everyone updated. Mid March was just a shot in the dark. I think last year my home course opened March 10th. So we will see.

Sorry for multiple posts, but can't figure how to do multiple quotes on my phone. I grew up in Johnsburg IL so I am familiar to the crystal lake area. Was recently out at a bar called Dukes not too long ago in CL

Haha, wow small world. I'm at dukes every week, love that place.

The beer menu is phenomenal. I participated in the 12 beers of Xmas. I enjoy the place in the summer because of the beer garden. Good grub too.

Small world indeed. Have played at Cary CC, Pinecrest, and Redtail near Crystal Lake, often followed by burgers afterwards at Dukes. And originally from Evanston, although I've not ever golfed near there, unless you count the little course on the sewage canal where I first hit a ball in the last century.

This sounds fantastic, I've always wanted to play up in chicago. I live in west lafayette but I am not allowed to drive, but if it's set up enough in advance I might be able to figure something out with the bus

2013: play in the US amateur qualifier

I'll participate.  Probably won't play, but would like to meet and greet.  I'm in the far south reaches of Chicagoland and golf is really cheap down here, so i have a hard time justifying playing expensive courses.  And to me, anything much over 30 bucks is expensive.

And, i can't walk the course because i have MS and RA.  Can still play some (finished 4.5 last year), but can't walk 4 miles carrying clubs anymore.  So, when i say 30 bucks, i'm including the cart.

Yeah, golf is cheap down here.

Skokie is a little far for every weekend for me, but if you get a foursome, I might be interested in being a sub.

I am not available to play every weekend, I travel M-Th for work so playing every weekend would be a no-no with the family. I could probably play once or twice a month.

This is my suggestion, pick 4 area's of the area (North, South, West, and City perhaps?)

My suggestion would be to do a rotation.  Week one for instance is up north, Week 2 west, etc.

Then 2 weeks prior to the tee off, post on this thread, the course, and the preferred tee time range.  With most courses taking a 1 week in advance, this gives everybody on the thread 1 week to respond before somebody owns making the actual tee time.

Somebody that lives in the area should own picking a course, posting the cost for a round, and making the tee time for that course.

Is anybody interested in a knock the rust off 9 next Saturday the 30th?  The forcast looks a little chilly (high of 51) but sunny.  If you guys are game, If anybody is game, I can pick a course that is centrally located to everybody.  I have plans in the evening, so would prefer something around a 10AM tee time.

    • So I am aware that "the committee is allowed to set its own standards of player conduct in a code of conduct adopted as a local rule" (rule 1.2b) I also understand that there are some aspects that are allowed to be entered, and some that are not allowed.  My question specifically is: In which form does this code of conduct need to be available? Is it enough for someone to say "that's part of our code of conduct", or is it a requirement, that the code of conduct is in written form? Also, is there a need that the local rule points to the code of conduct in any way?   For better understanding: I'm playing competition and the next course that we play has a "no smoking policy". I don't have a problem with it, as I don't smoke anyway, but one of my team-mates does, and someone told him "You'll get disqualified if you smoke on the course".   Now I have looked at their local rules and there is no reference to a "code of conduct". I'm not sure if they even have an official "code of conduct" that states that smoking is not allowed.   I fully agree that he SHOULD respect this request from the club, but I am wondering if the club would really be allowed to DQ this player for this, if it's not properly documented in their local rules/code of conduct?  This is an official national amateur tournament, so not just something organized by a club for its members.
    • A few months back I purchased the following swing aid on Amazon ($130). It is solidly made of steel and heavy and stable in use. I use it both at the range and at home. Swing Plate Dual PRO by Jamie Brittain - Swing Analyzer Aid - Fits Standard 8mm Alignment Rod Sticks - Teaching Swing Plane Perfector - Indoor/Outdoor Golfing Practice. This winter I set a goal for myself to improve my backswing/downswing to be more consistent and on plane. I had a two way miss with my approach shots this past golf season. I have a hitting set-up in my garage, but I needed something to provide feedback while swinging the club. I came across the Swing Plate while browsing YouTube.   I set it up with the correct angles for my 8 iron. I started out with just the back rod in place, which prevents me from getting too far inside on the backswing. Started out slow and as I got comfortable increased my swing speed. Now I also came across a YouTube video on building a better backswing and getting more width in the backswing and added that to my practice. That video is here:    This video is a bit wordy since you are basically a fly on the wall as Ian gets a lesson. It took a few replays to be able to get the substance of the instruction. It was well worth the effort. Over the last two weeks I have been able to get out on the course and gauge how successful my practice has been. Overall, my consistency with approach shots has improved greatly. Incorporating the added width in my swing has also added a few yards to all my clubs.  What has your off-season training been like?
