You are one of the best players I know, and one of the best playing partners. Hope to hear you getting to scratch this year.

@Lihu let me re-phrase the way I responded to your statement.  First of all THANK YOU, that is very kind of you to say.  I feel blessed to have had the chance to work on things the way I have over the past four years.  It has been a lot of fun and I have enjoyed learning what I have about the game.

BTW, that third shot of yours for the tap in birdie, net eagle was amazing on that par five!  That was fun to watch!

Good overall. Some nit-picky type things:

Thanks, I will try and get some new video this week to see if there have been any improvements.  I have been working on shortening the swing, making the left hand grip a little stronger and also doing that drill to try and get the toe more up at A2.  That is the hardest part for me, but I will keep at it.  I have about 6 months to work on it.  ;-)  Short iron and mid iron swing is coming around quickly, with a tight little fade, with predictable start lines.  I still miss some shots out to the right with the long irons and up and am working on that.  But I am happy to report that the three wood is back in the bag, I feel like a big kid now.  I am finally able to hit that bastard again.  Driver is coming around, I just have to make sure I have the ball forward enough, and that I am bumping the hips and I feel like they stay bumped in the backswing.  If I do that I don't lose it out to the right so much and I can hit it much higher.  I hit a couple nice drives this morning, but still a few bad ones.  It also seems to help for some reason if I hover the driver head above the ground before starting the swing.  Not sure why that helps but it does.

Slightly better A2 maybe with more toe up, slightly better exit with less roll.  Baby steps I guess.  Ended the range session with a slightly stronger right hand to go along with the slightly stronger left hand, and the fades got tighter with similar height.  The same long swing with the new OTT move into a steep downswing.  This will be a tough one so long as I am in the cupped left wrist position at the top with the long swing and with the path coming down as long as I am trying to swing left and hit a cut.  A new set of issues but the results are more playable than they have been all year.  I can hit a 3W again which is great, and I am hitting the driver high and far...well far for me anyway.

The driver FO video was just a look at what the hips being bumped and "feeling" them staying there in the backswing translates to.  This with hovering the club is producing some of my best drives of the year so far.  The big miss is a high bleeder out the right, that sucker bleeds like a hemophiliac.

A bit better yes. Keep working at it. Remember the feeling for you was roughly "roll the toe open/take the hands in to 2, then everything goes up to 4."

Ended the range session with a slightly stronger right hand to go along with the slightly stronger left hand, and the fades got tighter with similar height.

Good.

The same long swing with the new OTT move into a steep downswing.

Remember that "up" is never "out" (toward the golf ball): when you stop turning, the arms stop too. The turn is responsible for your depth, the right elbow bending (in front of your chest, not around your shirt seam) is responsible for your "ascent."

This will be a tough one so long as I am in the cupped left wrist position at the top with the long swing and with the path coming down as long as I am trying to swing left and hit a cut.

Maybe you forgot this part: I don't want you swinging left. This is a push-cut pattern. I don't want you hitting pull-cuts from here. As much as you can lean the shaft forward and all that, pull-cuts are not really what I'd like to see you hitting. PUSH cuts, which means you shouldn't feel like you're swinging left at all - rather, just line up left. Not as severe as Trevino, think more Nicklaus.

You'll flip flop from the pull-cuts you're hitting now when you change 3.75 to 4.25 to stop that "carrying up and out" move and basically stop your swing when your shoulders stop turning (your arms will carry on a bit past that point, but the feeling will likely be that they stop at about the same time).

3/4 swings (feeling) for awhile. Don't give up the depth you achieve with your hands and the clubhead from 1 to 3 via your turning by carrying on too long from 3 to 4.

Not as extreme as it feels huh? :)

My struggle with this is the fear I will pull the hands/arms low and in too much too quickly, and just mentally getting past the weird "two part" backswing feel.  I will keep working on this.

Gotta get this right.

I think I did forget about that.  In NOT wanting to hit low draws so badly, I think I added that in there.  I will open up a bit more so I can push the ball a bit and correct that.   I will work on stopping at 3.75.  That makes sense about helping the "up and out" move.  I am guessing it should get better when I stop trying to swing left as well.  I have always struggled with carrying on to long if I am playing with a some left wrist extension/cupping at 4.  Maybe it is just harder to feel the club set I guess. Hopefully one of these days I will figure out how not to OVERDO EVERYTHING! :-D

Does not really look extreme at all and the results are great!

Opened up a bit to help push the ball.  I also worked on getting the hips turning back a little faster to start into A2 and then feeling the up from there.  I had kind of forgot about the hip work with this as well, in making sure I am using them to add depth.  The result here is a better clubface(I think) at A2.  Still carrying on too long after where A4 should be.  I gotta get working on this more next time.  I was really focusing in on A2 and the clubface.  Downswing is getting better, I struggle a bit in the second swing but it was more of a straight fade than a pull anyway.  The first one is definitely a push cut.

Played well this morning.

Flung a couple drives out to the right but I was able to recover okay.  Hit six greens and shot a 37.

Looks good (I hate you :-P ) Nice round.  How was the driver? Oh  and what the difference between a fade and a cut?

Nothing, it's just that I am terrible with the English language.  :-D

Do 2 even more. More toe up more sooner. :-D

And yes, you can and should start layering in the backswing pieces (3.75-4.25), because as you can see it still gets steeper and the arm shifts out that little bit.

If you can get 2 looking spiffy in the next week, I'm going to film a video about how you should use your hips and torso turning rates to help the club "turn the corner" on the downswing.

Pretty sure it's been like 9 or 18 holes… give him a little time eh? :)

Sounds good.  I'll give it my best, but am struggling to find enough toe up 2.  It is getting better each time and I am able to fade the ball, but finding that feel to make 2 click is not there yet.   Got it better today by feeling the club working a little lower to start with feeling the initial hip turn rate up a bit.

Hitting greens better already.  Not really sure on fairways.  I am not hitting 175 yard smother hooks into the left rough anyway. But yeah, I have only played 27 holes total since getting back.  The hunting trip took up a bunch of time after the Erie trip.

I would imagine I am still having a tough time finding enough toe up at 2, but I will get some video later today to try as see.  Started hitting draws yesterday on the course and hooked my last drive, and it kinda freaked me out a bit.  Today was much better after making sure I am open enough and weakening the grip slightly back to where it was before.

Yep I continue to suck at hitting a decent A2 position.  But hey, getting the swing a little shorter and the exit a little better.:doh:

Most of the time. Sometimes a big push fade, sometimes a slight pull fade, and every once and a while a F***(hook).

Do you feel like you getting better contact than you were before? No as many low pulls?

More face/path consistency for sure.  Contact was solved for the most part last year with the Key#3 hip/leg work.

    • Day 13: 12/23/2024 A lot more mirror work today. Using my same swing thought. Some slow motion, some full motion, some in between. Today I made sure I took every swing all the way to the finish.
