I've heard this before - to hit ball low, ball forward in stance and close face. I never had the opportunity to ask the follow up - how do you not hit it left? Do you line up right to compensate.

If you put the ball back in your stance, don't you hit it low, but with a big draw? How do you straighten in out?

So let me get this right, those two are saying that putting the ball back in the stance and moving the hands forward at contact will make the ball go higher? I am not an expert in ball flight dynamics but both of those things have been associated with hitting the ball lower. Maybe I am just out of the loop. Erik, Mike?

As short as I can say it, the amount of loft added by opening or closing the face is a much, much smaller a factor than how far the handle is leaning forward and the likely change to the AoA.

If I wanted to hit the ball the highest I'd basically time a flip - 0 AoA, ball forward, handle back.

Dumb. Just plain dumb.

Correct ball back in the stance, for a low draw.  If a player over curves these shots, they can experiment with aiming their body a little left at set-up or feel like they stay bent over more into the followthrough.  If I want to hit the ball the highest, I'm going to do what Erik said, ball forward, time a "flip" so that there is very little decent.  This is why we get so many threads and questions on the site about guys hitting the ball too high, because most golfers flip it.

You can hit the ball low with it forward in your stance but there's a lot of explanation that goes along with it.  It's a whole procedure with the grip, motion of the head and how the arms work.  This would be a specialty shot, slicing around and/or under a tree.  But if someone said they'd give me a million dollars and the only requirement for the shot was that it couldn't be more than 10 ft off the ground, that ball would be behind my right foot.

Great video and pretty much confirms what I thought was the general consensus on ball position on trajectory. The video in the OP was the first I've heard of the other school of thought.

On a side note, I wish I could hit my 6 iron 190ish... haha
