Man, that's not bad. Must be nice to pick up that easily without any practice.

Don't worry, I'll go out next time and shoot a 100. :-D

The time off probably helped...I didn't think, I just hit the ball...used muscle memory and instincts. Once I start thinking it gets ugly...

That sucks, doesn't it. Why is it the first few times out every year are decent and then the game goes to the crapper for a bit?

You gonna be in this neck of the woods in the near future?

Possibly. I was just there last weekend, but only as a pit stop on the way to the KY Derby.

I'm getting married next month, so free weekends are sparse and precious until probably July.

Back out today...probably my best ball striking day of the year. No warm-up time, and my putter is literally starting to fall apart (face is warping and starting to pop out) so my putting was awful...which killed a potential great round...but meh.

With drives of 303, 285, 285, 279, 285, 269, and 291, it's definitely my best driving day...and then 44% GIR, with an 8 consecutive par streak.

Love it when the ball-striking is hot. Should have been an even better round, but the short game murdered me today :D

No new swing updates other than me taking my time and caring less...which has resulted in better golf.

Haven't had time to practice...haven't hit the range all year, and am playing some of my best golf ever. Went out and shot an easy 84 last night. First full 18 of the year.

Sick of playing shit golf. Time to actually practice again...net's up and I'm gonna see if I can focus on some shizz over the winter. Heated range down the street from work, and a new co-worker into golf. No excuses. The goal is Newport Cup 2019.

Right now I'm just trying to shorten the swing...been waaay overswinging lately. Then I can get back to what I was working on before I became a lazy sack of ass.

Cool, let's hold each other accountable.

I'm gonna start by actually keeping a handicap...even if it's unofficial at first, I'll log every round and calculate. Starting tomorrow at 9:42 AM!

Single-digit in two years is ambitious for me, but I'll see you guys in 2021.  ;-)

If I actually practice and work at it, I know I can drop to single digits.

Problem is, I haven't really "practiced" anything golf related in over 2 years. And when I did, it was for less than a year...and not consistent. Not gonna cut it lol

Working on a drill @iacas showed me about 3 years ago.

I still can't stop the wrists from coming through (releasing? I dunno the word) the way he can yet, but I'm gonna keep working at it.

Not bad. Just keep your hips pushing up too, the left knee stayed flexed for a long time there. Finish with your butt cheeks squeezed up underneath you and forward. They'll be pinched together kinda.

Left knee extended, belt forward.

Thanks, I'll give that a whirl over the next few days and see what we come up with.

@iacas are you referring to the downswing/followthrough? I was messing with trying to get that "feel" today but don't want to be drilling something in the wrong way.

Ok good, that's what I'd assumed and was trying to do.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
