I have had 3 9-hole scores, maybe 4, in my last 20 rounds and none of them have combined to post to my handicap.  I am a member of the NCGA.  The 3 9's that I am sure of were on April 7th, July 5th, and July 7th.  When I post 18-hole scores it is visible on the internet that day or at the latest the following day.  The April 7 should have combined with the July 5 round.  Anyone have this issue come up?

I would probably just wait until the 15th and see what happens before even calling it an "issue."  My guess would be that they will show up then.

On another note, I just played my first 9 hole round (not counting the rounds I play at the local unrated par 3 course) last week, so I looked up the rules.  If you play 20 18-hole rounds after your 9 hole round and prior to another 9 hole round, then that old 9 hole round goes away.  However, when combining 9 hole scores together, they go with the date of the most recent 9-hole round, which means that if you played a 9 hole round 19 rounds ago, then another now, that really old one that was about to disappear now becomes your most recent round.  Kinda quirky.  Not that they have much other choice, just quirky.  Here at work, we would call that an "ambiance" in the system. ;)

I was thinking about the possibility that they don't get combined until a revision, but I don't remember that happening in the past.  I thought they were posted quickly like 18 hole rounds were.  I will wait until the 15th and then check again.  Just getting excited because this time last year my index was 24.7 and I think my index at the next revision will in the 16's.

16's?!?!?  Wow, I thought that you were down to 18, but not 16 yet.  Congrats!!!

And my answer was predicated on the assumption that these were your first 9 hole rounds.  If you've already played 9 hole rounds and they combined immediately, then you have more experience here than me. :)

I have a related question.

I keep up with my own handicap, and last week I played 18 holes at a 9 hole course. Do I put that in there as a regular round of 18 holes, or does it have to be figured as 2 9-hole rounds? Would it matter to your handicap?

If you played the 9 holes twice in a row ... like a regular 18 hole round, I'd be inclined to post it as a regular 18.  If you post them as separate 9's then they will combine themselves back into 18 anyways, so it'll be the same thing ....

unless you already have an old stray 9 hole round waiting in the wings.  In that case, if you posted them as separate 9 hole rounds, then the first one will combine with the old one, and the second will wait for the next one.

May not even be able to post them as an 18 hole round. My club has it's own portal and I can save my favorite courses. The exec and 9 hole courses I play don't come up on the site as having a back 9 when I select what tee was played etc. No it won't matter because the rating is just for the 9 holes.

I don't ever post the 9 hole rounds. When I play 9 it's usually at a small executive course where I am just messing around with friends or my wife so I don't bother trying to find the rating and posting them.

I would never count a 9 hole round. My unofficial handicap would blow up big time, as my back 9 score is typically 6-10 shots better than my front.

I usually play a few 9 hole rounds through the week, between not getting out of the office until after 6 some nights or half of the course tied up with league play.  When I post scores at my club they usually combine right away.  Congrats on getting down to the 16's.

Not all HDCP posting systems are created equal. Some can handle more complexity than others.

The software system which my home course contains a database of the regional courses, with Course Rating and Slope for all sets of tees. It's a layered menu system, which has been upgraded since last season. You get to select:

  • 9 or 18
  • Home, away or tournament score
  • Course, and tees used (with CR + Slope data)
  • Date of round.

Only long-hand data you input is your score for the day (unless you played course not in db; then you can type in info).

I haven't tried to combine 9 holes played twice this season, so I'm not sure what it would look like. I'll get back to this thread after I test it out.

Sounds like the same setup my club has, it's pretty handy!

Power of suggestion...I asked the question this morning about my 9 hole scores not combining and now I see a combined score on my list.  The only problem is that they included the wrong ones.  The last 3 9-hole scores of mine were 47,46,43, and they were all within my last 20 rounds so that is not the issue.  The combined score posted today was an 89 (46-43).  What happened to the 47? No idea but I guess it's better than nothing.

I clicked onto 9-hole scores yesterday, and this is what I found:

You get a CR/Slope line for each nine, for all the tees.

If you played the same nine twice, you would simply enter a two separate nine-hole scores for the same day.
