uhhh?  What?

Many private, and some public course have that rule.  Often the same clubs will have a rule about wearing your hat forwards and keeping your shirt tucked in.

Not much bothers me on the golf course, although I'm really disappointed when I have a good round going and out of nowhere I shank a 15 yard chip.

It's very common for private clubs in Scotland to prohibit members from changing in the car park, even just your shoes. You have to do it in the changing rooms..

I don't see why people do that. Put them on at home

People who take 2 practice swings which tear up the fairway. Then take their shot which digs a 3" deep hole in the fairway. Then doesn't repair any of the massive divots or fill them with sand from their cart. Then my perfect drive ends up in one. That grinds my gears. Those 3 divots are much deeper than they appear in the photo. After I hit my shot out of it, I repaired all 3 with the sand bottle on my cart.

Right, because I'm gonna walk around a construction site all day in golf shoes.

Even if they repaired them you would be in it.
Right, because I'm gonna walk around a construction site all day in golf shoes.
you live at a construction site?

Ok, you wear a collared shirt and belt when you work? Or are you like a manager?

Slow play is by far the worst thing on a golf course, it throws off your rhythm, you start to play bad and it just gets frustrating. I also hate cheaters, I don't know who you think you're fooling but not me that's for sure.

Hello new to the forums here and was curious of what other golfers do to upset you on the course “So what grinds you gears?”

As a relatively new golfer I tend to get intimidated while I’m on the golf course and it’s a busy day with people waiting behind for my group to go. I assume that when I hit a bad shot the people behind me are thinking “Ooh great this guy stinks were are going to be here all day!”

I want to know if this is really what’s happening, if not then what does “grind your gears”?

You need to completely ignore the golfers waiting behind you...............................they are not relevant......they aren't your concern.

So long as you are keeping up and maintaining pace with the group in front of you.............you are golden.  the people behind you know this.......they don't care how bad you play.  So long as you keep up with the people in front of you.......you have nothing to worry about.    OK?  If you aren't keeping up with who you are following, then please leave the course immediately.  LOL

Golf. Golf as a whole grinds my gears. The fact that it exists and it is the only thing in the world I love as equally as much as I hate, grinds my gears.

How about a couple slowpokes ahead of you combined with a blind tee shot? I waited until the one I could see finally ambled off toward the green and waited a little more, then hit a really nice drive. Climb up over the hill and there is the other slow poke, right in my estimated landing zone. He saunters off without hinting where my ball might have landed and I never find the ball, even though it should have been in the fairway.  I like to think the guy might mention it if he saw it land, unless he was mad for me hitting into him.   I was working on a personal best, and well, it just "ground my gears."

Put my golf shoes on at home and drive in them? I keep mine in the trunk with my clubs and change my shoes before taking my clubs out. That's how basically everyone I've ever seen or known has done it. Maybe if I wore spikeless shoes I'd wear them driving, but there's no telling if I'll have to stop at the store or something on the way home so I'd rather just change my shoes.

    • Has anyone played around with "My Strategy?"  It seems they've revamped it -- I remember not liking the interface a while ago.  Today I went over a course I play semi-often and was able to designate a tee box for each hole, then choose a a club and target direction and it put my scatter pattern for that club off the tee, showing average SG for fairway / rough / bunker (if appropriate) / green.  I could change the club and see how another behaved.  It wasn't clear to me what I can gain from this, or where the follow-up shot supposedly originates, but it is neat to look at it on a map. What motivated me is that I'm debating taking less than driver on one of the par-4s next time I play this course, probably 4-Wood.  I have found myself, sometimes off of a good tee shot, playing my second shot from the tree line, as the fairway slopes strong left to right.  I don't think I've even had a near-GIR on that hole in 2026 (6 rounds at this course), and it's my second-worst strokes-gained hole, playing to an average of 5.3 for me -- the only worse is a hole where I've hit an O.B. en route to a bogey and also managed a triple bogey another round. Scattering my 4W pattern off that tee shows a higher strokes gained, but then again, hitting that club is far from a guarantee I won't fade it a bit and roll into the tree line, now further back from the green.  And I haven't hit a bunted driver in a while, maybe I need to practice that shot, but that isn't something this feature can show (since it doesn't know why my tee shots ended up where they did).  Then again, it might not know where I was aiming for my tee shots either. On a related note, I am finding their course analysis tool interesting, especially when I can sort by strokes gained average and also determine which hole(s) I'm playing to what stroke average.  Interesting that the #2 and #4 handicap I'm averaging under bogey, while 5-6-7 and 12 handicap holes I'm averaging over bogey.  The hole I described a moment ago is the #12 handicap.
    • Day 28, June 1.  Went to a course near me while running errands to practice putting.  I wanted to chip also but their chipping green was closed. I did my 4' and 6' drills (around the clock, but with the goal of making each putt twice, for a total of 24 from each station).  On the 4' putts, I took a total of 32 putts to sink all 24.  I'm very happy with the 75% make rate (scratch one-putt at that distance is 80%, bogey 65%). For the 6' putts, I took a total of 52 putts, for a 46% make rate (scratch: 55%, bogey 39%).  That's an improvement I'm happy with, and I'm aiming to do this drill once a week for a while, now that my putting (over the past five rounds) is better than the 10 hcp baseline (I'm a 10.7? 10 point something as I type this), which is far better than 6-7 months ago when I was losing strokes to the 25 handicap baseline (I really should write up what I did to improve over this time).  Amazingly, on the 6', there was one putt (approximately coming from 10:00) that I didn't sink at all in 4-5 passes and then was the only coin remaining, and it was face up.  I could've sworn it would break right, and I kept missing it left, and when I finally aimed straight in, I made two in a row.  Maybe it was one of those rare (?) double-breaker 6' putts.
    • This is feeling like the club is at P2. To get lower launch angles I have to feel like I’m dragging my hands through impact just delofting the crap out of the club.  This is trying to stop at P2.5. The consistency in launch angle gets worse. Contact gets worse.   trying to go P3, things get more volatile. The more I increase my swing length the more I can’t lower the dynamic loft.  Edit: these are with my 56 degree.
