My best putts have always been made with my weight on my back foot. Does this show a significant flaw in my technique and if so what might it be. Thanks.

If your making putts, then your making putts. Weight slightly back might help you hit up on the putt, which is preferred.

For me, I like being balanced, 50/50, with the ball slightly forward in my stance. I like a slight forward press. I use that to initiate my putting stroke, like Phil.

How many classes do you need to attend ? At 250 an hour, I'm afraid I'd  have to  refinance  my house in order  to become a better putter. ;0)

To each his own.  I wanted to be able to very accurately read greens.  I took one seminar (~ 3 hours) $200.  It was worth it to me.

+1 on saevel25 - 50/50 weight distribution for me (a la Stan Utley) with feet as far apart as when I stand casually.  I like everything square to target too (shoulders, feet, hips, arms).  This is a real neutral position and it won't cause anything to interfere with the stroke.

It's not $250/hour.

And you'll be amazed at how much better you can read greens in three hours.

I'm sorry , I read the rates for a private lesson. Private Instruction

Mark Sweeney teaches out of the Waldorf Astoria Golf Club in Orlando and has limited availability for private instruction, his hourly rates are:

• $250/hour
• $150/hour for juniors

I would love to attend a clinic. It looks like something I could afford.  I didn't see any coming to PA. I'd KILL to be able  to read greens better !

Thanks

P.S

I signed up at Aimpoint site, to be notified of clinics in my area.

That's probably just Sweeney's rate as well. My first AimPoint lesson was private, closer to 3 hours, and $150.

Aimpoint sounds great, but 3 hours? Really?? Is most if that time used to practice the technique? From what I've heard, the calculations are fairly straightforward...

It included on-course work, which was truly invaluable, plus plenty of practice. I had already driven an hour to get there and it was a flat rate, so I wasn't going to say no to spending more time out on the course.

It's comprised of skills, and you need to know how to develop those skills. It's not just "calculations" (there are no "calculations" really - just estimating a few inputs).

Before going to a clinic, practice your putter alignment to target.  And practice starting your putts on their intended line.  Erik suggested this before my clinic and it helped a lot.  For the second part, I used a putting mat on a flat surface and did 3 to 5 footers at a specific spot.

It's got some holes in it, and fails on slopes over a certain percentage, and green speeds over a certain amount as well. The Spider would predict maximum break always being at 90° and that isn't accurate.

Please explain....

Please explain....

There are situations, accounted for by AimPoint, where a downhill putt at 60* will break more than a putt at 90*.

    • Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.
