2013 NFL Football

I really hope the Broncos drill them, though I think it is going to be a nail biter.  But I would love for Manning to really cement his legacy and finish this stellar season by defeating the seahawks for his second SB win.  And I'd love for him to torch sherman a time or two just to shut him up.

Sherman is definitely a guy that can get under your skin when he's not on your team, but it really was a great play to end it. SF is going to need to figure out how to throw on these guys if that's the secondary they'll be facing for a few years.

Super Bowl will be awesome. I can't wait to see how Denver attacks Seattle's D. As exciting as guys like Wilson and Kap can be, watching Manning when he is on is fantastic. I really haven't watched enough Denver football to get an idea of how their D will match up with Seattle's running game and Wilson's scrambling/improvisation.

He needs to take Crash Davis interview lessons.  Talk about a sore winner.  I felt bad for the sideline reporter.  I bet the director was screaming for her to end the interview.  I guess is PED level was spiking.

Speaking of piles.  One rule that has to change in the NFL is being able to review the recovery of a fumble.  It makes no sense that it is not reviewable.  It did not cost San Fran the game, but it was stunningly clear that the San Fran linebacker recovered the fumble and was down by contact.  I just don't see why the NFL would not want to review it.  They review every turnover, but can't include recovery?  Bizarre.  I felt bad for the player too.  Nasty injury.

Yeah, I totally agree and I actually don't understand that.  I thought they DID change that rule a few years ago.  The play in Denver 5 or 6 years ago where the ref ruled it an incompletion (even though it was a clear fumble that was returned 90 yards for a touchdown) was not reviewable because they blew the whistle immediately.  Denver got to keep the ball, Cutler threw a touchdown on the next play and a 2 point conversion for the win at the buzzer.  (When they should have lost by 2 touchdowns)

"Stunningly clear" is correct.  I see how they would have a hard time determining possession on plays where its at the bottom of the pile and you can't see anything until they unpile.  But that isn't a case for "unreviewable," that's just a case for "no clear evidence to overturn, therefore the call stands."  And in this case, you couldn't have possibly had a clearer view of the fact that it was stripped and recovered and down prior to any whistles or piles that followed.

Had Lynch and Wilson not been so polite as to give the ball to SF immediately after that, this play is the ONLY thing they'd be talking about this morning.

Yes and I hold FOX just as responsible if they didn't like the interview either, they know Sherman will do this from time to time and then you stick a microphone in his face right after a highly competitive game? What did they expect?

Everybody seems to want pro athletes to care more and get emotionally involved with the game, but when the emotions come out with words, people get upset.  Remember when Brock Lesnar went off after a fight a few years back??

All that being said, I still think Sherman was wrong.  Just not very classy.

I would be a little more forgiving if Sherman had refrained from making the choke signs. But I will take into consideration that they got the guy while he was still amped up right after helping his team get to the Super Bowl. He was more respectful in all his later interviews. And he IS the best CB in the NFL. The reason he didn't do much until that last play was because they never challenged him.

Look, Sherman is who he is. He runs his mouth more than I would like, but he can back up everything he says with his play, which has been outstanding.  He's the kind of guy that you hate when he plays for the other team, but you would love to have him (or someone of his calibre) on your team. Personally, I am glad he is on the Seahawks. I don't think Manning will try to burn him too much, and will probably look elsewhere for his receivers.  Should be a great chess match.

It was unclear to me exactly when that occurred.  From the replays, it looked like after the interception Sherman patted Crabtree on the butt and tried to shake his hand (maybe sarcastically, who knows). Crabtree then pushed Sherman's facemask. I am assuming the choke sign came after that, since the penalty flag came out later on. Then Sherman went off on Crabtree in the first on-field interview, although he tempered his responses in the 2nd on-field interview, and was quite calm in a locker room interview later on.  Incidentally, I liked his response to the question about what it will be like for the best offense in football to play the best defense in football.  He said (paraphrasing) "Sounds like a good a time to me."

Sherman's a smart guy.  He did go to Stanford, after all, and they do have tougher standards than most schools.  For sure, he doesn't like Harbaugh, and felt that he was not given a good recommendation by Harbaugh coming out for the draft. And he is not short of self-confidence, that much is for sure.

Even as a '9ers fan, I can admit that Sherman makes the league fun. People want pro athletes to fit a certain mold and say the appropriate things at the appropriate times in order to be "classy", but it's just sports. Sherman had a strong opinion about Crabs, and wasn't afraid to state it after the game rather than the usual "one game at a time, happy to be hear" cliche answer we usually get. Sherman has also been vocal in a positive way about guys he respects (Larry Fitzgerald, among others), has an incredible story (growing up in Compton, talking trash to his own guys when they'd skip class or do poorly in school, 4.2 GPA and then to Stanford), admits he isn't that physically gifted but instead prepares like no other and is student of the game, and makes his team mates better. Here's an example of the last two points.

Did his rant piss me off initially? Of course. My favorite team just lost a heartbreaker. At the end of the day, though, I love what the guy brings to the league.
