Looking at new irons and wondering what people think about uniflex shafts

My swing speed with my driver is 117 - keep in mind i am a big guy (6'4" and 300lb)

The salesman has said it will be fine for me

Any thoughts -

I am ok if I need to change them out but I am also considering going all the way custom - its just more expensive

Thoughts?

My swing speed with a driver is about 102, and I always thought uniflex was too soft. With all attention paid to fitting, I would think proper shaft flex would be the most important factor. I find it hard to believe that there is one shaft that is good for every swing speed.

I play with a set of X22 irons with the uniflex shaft.  I think the shaft for these clubs and my swing are great.  I don't know what my driver swing speed is these days as I have  not had it measured in a long time.  But I hit my driver about 235-255 yards most of the time (yes that GPS yards).

117 is pretty fast so I'd think uniflex aren't stiff enough for you.  Given your a big guy you probably load up the shaft pretty well which means you might see more distance with uniflex but the dispersion pattern would also be larger than if you played with a shaft that was better fit for your swing speed.

Uniflex won't be a great fit for 117 mph.  I'd spend the extra $$$ and get fit.  It will allow you to know your specs for future sets as well.

There's a reason Callaway got rid of the UniFlex shafts. They will not work well for your speed

The theory behind uniflex shafts is good but in practice it didn't work unless you fit into the middle of their targeted swing speeds.  Soft like regular flex but more stable like stiff flex is what I remember a Callaway fitter telling me.  If I remember correctly, they weren't for anyone with a driver swing speed over 105.

I saw a recent Callaway video where the three guys from Callaway, at least one was R&D;, were laughing about the uniflex shaft. That's everything I need to know

It appears that you have answered you own question.
