There's a lengthy thread on another site that talks about "opposing hands". As I understand it, it's the feeling of your right hand turning clockwise and the left hand turning counter clockwise (for a RH golfer)......so the hands are working against each other.  Does anyone understand what it's supposed to accomplish?

Thanks

I looked around a bit and can't really say. Is there some kind if measurable result or evidence to ascertain that a player is doing it correctly?? Seems to be a "feel" based piece of instruction that may be earth shattering for some players but useless to others. If anyone can explain this concept a little more I'd certainly be interested in hearing about it. If I can get a better understanding of what it is and what it does I'd try it out.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

A neutral to weak left hand grip..neutral right hand. Index finger of right hand is turning clockwise the whole swing,,left hand is countering by keeping the face square.... Some refer to this as the "shovel" swing.(DOCF method) . The main premise I believe is fighting the urge of the face closing shut as long as you can..and using the pivot of the body to square the face. Retraining the hands to do what they naturally do.."release the club".... A very square to square method..that relies on using the lower body to square the face. Does wonders for your impact positions ( which is really the main area we should focus on).. A non flipping golf motion.. .. Seems everyone that has tried this type of methodology has had success..a very body release motion where the hands are retrained to remain passive non flipping. Seems it would be very repeatable and require less range practice. Guys that flip require more timing...IMO.. And I have been a flipper for a long long time..finally I'm crossing the hump of not flipping at impact..a hard habit to break

Like working on the swing,,score means nothing to me. Might just go to the range and give up playing... ( might happen)

According to the opposing hand theory,,I try to replicate the feel in my transition,, I'm pulling back with my right hand as long as I can..feels like I'm coming into impact with a wide open face feeling. That feel really improved my impact and impact look..I used to flip like crazy.. Started playing good golf again this year,,once the flip started leaving in post impact and pre impact.... Fought a pull for over a decade...what this guy said in his thread was spot on with what I was trying to do on my own as well, I like it..just takes a lot of hard work to retrain untrained hands in my case.. We are all different, if it works it works,,

We've had threads on this. If you mean "square to square" in the sense that the club face is always square throughout the swing , it isn't. The fact that you feel the body "squares" the face backs that up too. DOCF isn't new and has never really caught on. It's most likely a feel that works for some but not all, and a small part of what works for those people at that.
