Greetings ..... Check out who's invited to this year's CIMB Classic, particularly those in the "Available Top 60 from the 2013 Fed Ex Cup Points List". As you will see by viewing both links below, the CIMB tournament staff had to go way, way down the points list to find players who wanted to play in this event. Will this be the case all the time, or will more of the top players choose to tee it up here in future years?? Weird comments for someone that hit 15 GIR in the first round

http://www.pgatour.com/tourreport/2013/10/24/mickelson-cimb-struggles.html

Quote:
"I can't remember swinging this bad in a long time," Mickelson told Golf Channel after opening his 2013-14 PGA TOUR season with a 1-under 71 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. "I can't find the middle of the club face. And I'm not sure if the ball is going to go dead left or snap hook right and it's a frustrating time tee to green."

For real, he really isn't even playing that bad. His confidence must just be a little low right now.

FYI.

I played with Keegan Bradley's (who is leading after 2 rounds) caddie early last week before he had to travel to Malaysia.  Apparently he lives in Parker, CO and travels out of DIA (Denver International Airport).

He is a great guy.  Friendly and courteous.  He has that "caddie mindset".  He raked all the bunkers he hit into (even the disturbed sand that wasn't his doing).  He was constantly fixing pitch marks on the green.

I don't care for Keegan Bradley's pre-shot routine.  In fact, I can't stand to watch him before the shot.  But after having met his caddie, I am pulling for him--for his caddie more so than Keegan, if that's possible.

His pre shot routine is down right painful to watch but he can play that's for sure. He played high school golf at my other course so I can't help but to root for him.

I watched tv coverage yesterday. He is beating his tee shots bad... Real bad.

He might be referring more to his tee shots, I'm not sure.  There certainly is a lack of confidence there, didn't put a driver into play for half of the season.  He might be dealing with some off center hits, so more gear effect is coming into play.  You get a guy with his speed hitting it slightly off the toe, it's going right (lefty) fast.  Think that's what has him a little shaken.

Phil will get it together and then take a nec break for the winter. Keeegan, I hope he wins. He is slowly becoming my second favorite golfer behind Dufner. And I dont know about you all, but I love watching late night golf live. I usually record golf and watch it when home late at night and have to avoid the internet so I dont know anyhting about the days rounds, but its nice being able to watch it happen when it happens. Thats why I think that maybe a Major in Japan/China/Somewhere over there might work. It will be live coverage in the evenings. Wonder if it would get better ratings?

GIR is obviously one of the most important stats, but it doesn't always tell the whole ball striking story- 2 Doubles, 10 shots back, under 40% fairways hit is not exactly good golf for Phil.  I have not seen any of the tourny, but maybe Phil feels he has gotten away with some poor driving and ball striking even if his GIR% is good.  If it was the US Open, it might be hard to make the cut if you were only hitting 40% of the fairways.

I'd like to see Woodland win it, also would love to see Cink get up there on the leaderboard.

We are into overtime. Playoff between Woodland and Moore, beginning Monday 7.30 am KL time.  That would be about 8.30 pm Sunday night. (I think) Anyway, those are two protagonists. Aphibarnrat tied for second.

Really, PHil needs to back off on the past parallel back swing.    He can pull it off at times, but I really think it's hurting him in terms of ball striking accuracy.    Just because he can, doesn't mean he should ALL THE TIME.    IMHO  of course ....

    • Day 27 (7 Dec 25) - Got in a few swings with 9i and hard foam balls in backyard.  Setup weight fwd (rebuilt left foot really lets me feel the weight in a slightly painful way) - kept the backswing to around 9 o’clock focusing on contact and resulting divot pattern.  Like how the hard foam balls come off the face (almost like real balls in sound).  A good abbreviated session as I only able to hit about a dozen balls in the fading light.
    • Day 117 12-7 A bit of chipping practice today. Full swing- hit some real balls to see where Im at.
    • Not the part I was replying to: Handicaps did not go down much (like 0.14 on average IIRC?) when we went from 10/20*0.96 to 8/20. And a good chunk of that was from the +s.
    • I think he meant in the UK. The old system was completely different from the new one. 10/20 x 0.96 vs 8/20 would really only impact very low handicaps I think. The 0.96 serves to increase differentials for plus differentials, where 8/20 vs 10/20 works to lower differentials for all. I don't know many plus golfers who would be upset that their index got lower. A lot of really good players don't even really keep their handicaps up-to-date. They're much more interested in their WAGR rankings which get them entries to certain events.
    • Day 433 - 2025-12-07 Got some work in after Junior Elite before a night of sports (and the return of my wife!). Backswing work. Similar to what a lot of my juniors are doing.
