That's not true.

I have a relative that balances drawers at Wal-Mart. The amount tendered matters.

I agree that it shouldn't matter. And that it doesn't mathematically.

Exactly, it shouldn't but it does.

Now I'm curious...how do they know? They count the 100-dollar bills?

If they do, how do they record someone asking merely for a change? That makes no sense.

I think that was the contention.. It doesn't matter what kind of register it is, in the end it can't tell the difference between giving 5.50  for a 10 or giving 95.50 for 100.  In the end, the sale was for 4.50$ and that is exactly what will be in the register mechanical or other wise..

No one will ever care did the customer pay 100 or 10 for the items purchased.

Thank God somebody understands what I'm talking about!

Yes! And you get it too! The amount tendered SHOULD NOT matter, just what is left in the till that is the store's "take"! This is just the "anal" nature of American business these days! They spend dollars chasing pennies!

I was at a garage sale with my son who was like 10 years old at the time. The seller had a box full of cheap toys with a handwritten sign on the box that read "$1 each, or 2 for $3".  I nudged my son and pointed to the sign with my eyes (because the seller was standing right there). He glanced down at the sign and immediately grinned and shook his head in disbelief.

And don't get me going on auctions. People will pay more for used crap than they know they would if purchased brand new, simply because they get caught up in a bidding war. The best part is listening to them try and justify it afterwards.

True that! I heard an auctioneer on the radio one time. He said if you want to get the highest price possible for an item you're selling, put it up for auction with an outfit that draws well. An auction introduces an element of competition among the bidders.

That's why you have to be careful they other bidders aren't plants to jack up the price artificially.  People think if someone else is willing to bid on it, it must be worth more than the bid price.  I see it all the time on eBay, bidders with no buying history bidding on items and then disappearing from the bidding.

I always bid a non-typical max price i'm willing to pay so the other bidders aren't certain what my max bid is, if it goes beyond that, they can have it or in some cases keep it if it's a fake bidder.

Couldn't find the bad math thread. European tour can't subtract right.

189-108=81.

Where's the bad math? Holes aren't all straight.

What am I missing?

    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
