Get a forged cavity back.

I was going to say forged cavity back like the Adams CB 2s. Great feel and decent workability but the only draw back is the progressive offset if you dont mind that in your irons. Most irons have offset anyways unless theyre players irons.

I'm thinking of switching to forged irons. Any thoughts

Forged, cast, or combo … cavity backs.

Well, the new Callaway forged Apex Irons are coming out soon.

I've never like the feel of cast clubs but it's personal preference I think. I've been using the Titleist AP 2's for about 4 years now and I love em!

Well, my personal favorite for a mass built club is Mizuno - they make great forged Cavity backs that are easy to play.

Callaway is doing a lot these days with very thin faces and different alloys in the face. Roger Cleveland is doing a very good job with the sole grinds and bounce of their irons.

Playability wise, or feel wise, I don't think it matters. "Softness" isn't everything. I have soft forged Mizuno and Hogan irons that I like - and they feel great. But I've got cast Pings that are practically indestructible - and they feel great too. Cavities may end up feeling softer more often than blades - depending on how you're hitting the ball. Depending on what you're looking for, the courses you play and the shots you try to hit - there's no reason IMO why a 10 index shouldn't have a ton of fun hitting blades. I like old forged blades that I can buy cheap and tinker with. All part of the fun. Yeah most players will like the feel of a cavity back because a blade will be more "responsive" on off center hits.  A blade can be forged or cast, obviously a majority of muscle backs are forged but the Cleveland had irons for years that were labeled form forged and it basically meant "fake" forged.  PING also has blade-ish line of irons that are cast that a majority of their tour players use.

New ones - MP-64 and MP-54  (both look like winners)

I'm REALLY liking the look and feel of the 64.  But my MP-53's have quite a few years on them before I go shopping again.

Forged cavity back, like Callaway X Forged 2013 model

An excellent iron - nice bounce on that club make it very friendly.

Titleist AP-2 is a forged "players" cavity.  I don't know what that means, but I like mine. ;-)

I tried the Ping S59's and just couldn't get on with them. They just felt very clunky to me. I really wanted to like them too because I thought they looked smart. If I change my AP2's, I would consider Mizuno next because I loved my old set of TP 9's and their forged irons usually come out in the top three of any test.

I love my forged Titleist 755s (so did Steve Stricker for the decade he played them I'm sure) and they can be found really cheap these days for experimenting.  It's just that my Pings make the game fractionally easier to play.

    • After a bit of a lean spell managed to birdie stroke hole one, long par five. Ball striking best it’s been for a while short game exactly the opposite. Had so many opportunities to post good scores last three or four games, failed miserably😀
    • Would You Rather #69 For this question let's assume you are playing whatever tournament is important to you.  Would you rather finish second in your tournament but be remembered for a huge mistake you make right at the end.  or  Would you rather play solidly in your tournament, but you still finish outside the top 25, and are never really in contention.  Incidentally, this happed to a friend of mine many years ago at the tournament I play every year. He was leading the tournament coming into the last hole, where he took two to get out of a greenside bunker and then three-putted his way to second place. He hasn't really been in contention again since.
    • I hate that I agree with this. But the guy is like a Ferrari with four flat tires trying to go 200 mph. Bad things can only come from that. He turns 50 on December 30th. I wonder how long Golf Cart Tiger lasts out there.
