I'm skipping out on my kids' open invitation for the Northern Trust. We want to go next year. We have our priorities straight. :-) We're also planning on going to the Toshiba Classic, we'll see how the ticket situation goes, I have only 2 and need 4.

Kyle-Why do you want to work on that?-A guess about what to work on? You have a slice swing why work on rotating your hips more? Maybe you dont mean rotating.-But what do you mean? And why do you think this is what you need to work on? Tip in a golf magazine? Pro who is good? Guess?[quote name="KyleAnthony" url="/t/71817/operation-single-digits-2014/390#post_950341"] oh i know my 3 wood isn't my only problem. i was just mentioning it because that was my go to club off the tee and now i can't even touch it at the course. haha and ya I'm working on a few withs with my irons. one thing i am working on that is helping a lot actually is firing my hips first. in my swing before i was moving hips and shoulders at the same time if not my shoulders first which i think was causing more of an over the top. yesterday i hit 8 greens and was scrambling great so i was happy. i think having the hips leading on my downswing is a step in the right direction. Yeah, as I am not involved with teaching or anything, so it takes quite a bit to get me to watch people play golf rather than do it myself. I already know what good ball strikers are like, since I watched a dozen or so soon to be PGA tour teens playing. It's pretty impressive, and puts our ball striking in it's place.

Do you mean that he does not seem to have any specific drills to work on to eliminate the issue? Or that he does not even know for sure what the fundamental problems are with his swing? From what I understood, couple lessons with Mike and Dana, there are many factors that can contribute to OTT and they seem to be covered by the 5SK. Maybe I'm oversimplifying the issue, but they have helped me a lot.

If I go astray, I go back to pitch shots with the first key, then the second and then the one I am working on. When I am back on track again, I go back to the longer swings.

Or is there more to it?

I've heard from a few people that when they tend to have an over the too swing hey start their downswing with their arms not tier lower body so when you start with your lower body it helps your and stay on plane. It may be wrong but it's really helped with some extra distance and a straighter shot

Yeah, but it might not be your problem. As @Phil McGleno queried, did an instructor or expert see your swing and determine that you are not firing your hips soon enough?

For me at this point, my issue is still from the wrist. To get my wrist into the right position, my body needs to be in the right position, and in turn my arms need to be set correctly then finally my wrists can be in the correct position. Any of these things out of place at the right time could cause OTT. I would not have known this if not for Mike and Dana telling me.

It takes an expert instructor to watch your swing and tell you what to fix.

ever think he wants to figure this out on his own? everyone knows there's a quicker way, but there's some fun in the process and pride in saying "I got to X.X handicap on my own." i hope many of the posters here aren't/weren't like this with their kids.

So true. My kids are getting (or have already gotten) past the stage where they want any kind of help. I need to hire tutors (even for math and science, ugh) when they desire it, so they can take the learning process into their own hands.

About the golf, given "feel is not real", it seems like a very frustrating journey to learn it without some form of guidance. My teen kids are happy to get any good coaching.

Even the pros have coaches.

Yep......

I really enjoy watching my kids make the same silly mistakes that I made too.  I could help them along the way with a little insight and guidance based on experience, but then I wouldn't get to laugh at their misery as often.  What fun would that be?

Haha I take some pointers from here and if I don't understand it or it's too awkward for me I try to figure out a different way to approach it. I think of golf as a constant learning activity

My kids played the same sports I played. They didn't have to make the same stupid mistakes I made because I taught them better before they made them.

Isn't that the way it's supposed to be?

    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
