Hello! This thread is more out of curiosity rather than actually needing help but rather just a friendly question. I am wondering what shape of putter that you guys prefer. I know that putting is very personal and I am curious to hear some answers. Personally I like an anser style putter with a wide back but thats just me. Any response is appreciated! Thanks guys!

Well since I sold all of my other putters (all different brands and styles) because this one rolled the ball best, I guess it's my favorite.

This is the Milled Metal-X. I have the regular Metal-X, but its the exact same shape.

This is a very interesting article from Grantland

Anyone who wants to talk about that article, go to this link. There is already a Thread for it.

I prefer the shape that lets me line up the putter accurately.

It's different for everyone, and almost nobody lines their putter up where they think they're lining it up.

Anser style with a line on the base, not top.  I can line mine up very accurately after it was adjusted when I had my fitting.

Blade with an offset shaft. I've tried almost every shape out there, and a blade is what works best for me..

I have a Ghost Spider S - funny looking, but I LIKE it

Mallet with a Slant shaft - attach point is edge, not center

Big fat grip (other thread, but my preference)

Mallet vs regular - I don't get much difference in feel.  I like mallets just because of the real estate allowed bigger alignment features

Tried both offset and slant shafts - better/noticable results with slant.  I liked the bent shaft look better, but it wasn't for me.

This is the FIRST putter I've ever had that actually points where my eyes is telling me it's pointed.  I've always had to 'correct' for offset or pick a close point to putt over.  Maybe I'm fooling myself, but it certainly is better by far.  Really helps the confidence.

As my technique improves and I've found a grip that works for me, I'm finding it easier to use other putters and still get good results.

    • Day 52: simulator day. Played Old Head and shot an “80,” which was probably more like a 78 in a non-simulator. Then worked on irons for 15 minutes, and may have found a good feel.
    • Day 14: 2026.01.16 Some swings late in the day to confine trying to embed the hip rotation I'm working on.
    • I don't know what to tell you. You can't test wedges with range balls, and you have a LOT more info to gather before you can begin to really even test anything else, either.
    • Day 27 - 2026-01-16 Played 18 with some of the usual "too many voices" going on when I'm working on swing stuff. Fun to get out in great bay area winter weather.
    • I know one recent college grad who's trying the same thing.  This guy was a Division III All-American, went on to play one year at Division I LSU, and is not working hard.  He won the Gulf States Open, a pro event, and made it to the second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour School late in the fall.  And didn't make the cut to get to the final stage.  I won't talk about swing or play stuff, but I believe there are a couple of things that are essential.  Obviously, talent, and drive, or work ethic.   I can't tell you how to do it, but you HAVE to get through it.  Golf is going to be your life, and it takes lots of work. Two more things that are really critical.  You'll need the facility to be able to practice.  My young friend stayed in Baton Rouge, as a past player on the team he can still use the LSU practice facilities.  And money.  Its unlikely you'll be able to work a full-time job and practice the way you will need to.  You'll probably need backing, from a parent, from a consortium of friends or club members., something to support you. Good luck, its not an easy path, but anything is possible.  Another young man from our area, Mike Brennan, just won for the first time on the "big" PGA Tour.
