Chalk up yet another win for the Pac-12 with Stanford's curb-stomping of Maryland. That's four straight with at least three to go.

Really wish there were some bowl tie-ins between that conference and the SEC. In fact, I wish the Top 5 from the Pac-12 South could square off with their counterparts from the SEC West. Those are far and away the best divisions in the country.

I wish their was a way to mix it up a bit more. Not sure if there could be some bid system to determine the order and the bowls can then pick the teams they want. Maybe in 4 bowl pods they get to pick 8 teams total. So the top 4 bid bowls would be

Bowl 1: 1 & 8

Bowl 2: 2 & 7

Bowl 3: 3 & 6

Bowl 4: 4 & 5

This year created a scenerio where those conferences that had no championship actually hurt themselves. Next year that pressure to name a conference winner will only increase, and will come from the fans, I would think. I can't say if its good or bad, but its obvious the national network of interrelated teams has a bifurcation that precludes pure and vetted named champions until a larger participation in the system occurs. I don't see how those non participating groups will resist change. For them it is one more game, and for the individual school that wins out, a few more games.

DOWN GOES LSU!!!

A mighty SEC team gets beat by Notre Dame. LOVE IT! The same SEC team that took Alabama to OT just got beat by an ND team that go destroyed by Arizona State, lost to Northwestern in OT, and got dismantled by a middle of the road Pac-12 team in USC.

Illinois (Big 10) falls to La Tech (C-USA) a team SEC schools schedule for homecoming :-P

I have no sympathy for Illinois. They are the 2nd worst team in the Big Ten. I am shocked at how their coach isn't gone. There has been no improvement at all over the last few years.

La Tech lost 45-17 to Auburn. I think Illinois would probably lose in very similar fashion.

They are sending a message alright, against one of the better SEC defenses. ( I thought )

Screw tonight's crapola, Football, football and football tomorrow.

All starting with Chelsea v. Tottenham. Yeah I know we went around on that with the other thread. Still a good warm up for me.

Going to make a real effort to keep the consumption down while I wait for the ball to drop. May need to save that for OSU-Bama.

Not a fan of Brent Musberger but he asked a question at the start of this broadcast (Georgia Tech/Miss. St.) that is looking to be a really good question:   Has the SEC been rated too high all year?  To be fair, I think the real question is, has the SEC west been overrated (said because there has been a lot of commentary on how the SEC east is not as strong as the west)..

Given the score from the TCU/Ole Miss game and the way this GT/Miss St game is going, one has to look seriously at that question and wonder.   This doesn't mean 'Bama isn't what we think they are (we will see tomorrow) but if you look at the way TCU beat down Ole Miss and the way GT is taking it to Miss St., I think it is a fair question.   I sincerely hope this is an indication that other conferences are (or have) caught up to the SEC.   Parity among conferences is a good thing in college football and for the past several years, there hasn't really been much of it.

After the beat down TCU put on today, I sure hope OSU comports itself well tomorrow or we are going to hear about the failings of the committee for a whole damn year, just like we used to hear how fouled up the BCS system was....

2 points: 1 is there is no real conference rating system, except radio blohards like finebaum. 2 The idea of parity is going to wreck the system it touches. Differences make things happen. Not sameness. Ask NASCAR where there fans went with their ticket money. Or pick a small country where everbody is poor and financially the same. 3 Ohio State is gonna lose. Remember BAMA beat all these teams and broke their year. The Emotional states went down. Its a carnage of previous Bama wins.

Has the SEC been rated too high all year?

The SEC's reputation has been built on its ability to produce a single great team every year, with that distinction spread around among a handful of schools. The idea that the whole league is a murderer's row week in and week out is – and always has been – a crock of baloney.

Actually, 'Bama lost to Ole Miss..   Does that mean I think they will lose to OSU?  Nope.   Although I am not as sure as you seem to be....   I guess we will know by this time tomorrow night..

While I agree there is no conference rating system, the consensus has been that the SEC is (was?) somehow superior to the other conferences.    The truth is, ditchparrot19 is closer to correct than most in the SEC are willing to admit.    The reality is, year in and year out, the SEC has one or two great teams (typically 'Bama is one of those), a bunch of really good teams and a few bad teams.   That's really not much different than most conferences.   The SEC has been touted as so tough because they have had a lot of success against other conferences in the past.   Thus far in this year's bowl season, it hasn't looked as dominant and the two worst defeats the conference has suffered have been teams from the SEC west.

BTW, parity is what got NASCAR to the heights they have enjoyed.  Just because ticket sales may be down right now is not an indication that it doesn't work or has hurt NASCAR.   In fact, their model is what other racing series have attempted to copy.  Considering all the changes NASCAR has made over the past few years (The Chase, changes in tracks and event dates, etc...), it is nearly impossible to lay blame for declining ticket sales on any one thing, much less the very thing that led to their unparalleled success.  But that is off topic.

The comments about countries is irrelevant and even farther off topic, so I am not even going to address it.

Just illustrations of the illusion of parity which was the topic.

TCU played angry!  But sadly, the message will not be received.  I think an 8 team playoff would have been better.

    • I would say your back nine is the second nine you play that day. It's part of what makes getting some of those holes tougher. Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
