Next year, the wife and I have decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary by planning a trip to Las Vegas. Naturally, I'd like to get to play a couple of times whilst over there (golf that is ), so I was wondering if anyone had any tips on courses to play, places to dine out, fun stuff to do and see?

Some feedback on green fees, club hire etc. would be appreciated as well. Thanks folks!

Hopefully some Vegas veterans will give you some good tips.  I know the golf there is more expensive than a typical US city.  The Paiute tribe has a facility with three (3) separate courses [ http://www.lvpaiutegolf.com/ ] They are located outside the general city limits in the middle of nowhere.  Fun courses.

Depending on what month you go and what time you are looking to tee-off, it could cost as much as $300 to $500 per round or as cheap (relatively speaking) as $100.

During the warmer months (say April/May to September), it gets very hot during the day (>110 *F), so you could get the cheaper (i.e., heat-stroke) rate.

If you can drive an hour or so out of Vegas, you can get better rates at a great courses.

One is called Champion's course (about an hour away), and the other is Wolf Creek in Mesquite (about 1-1/2 hour away).

Usually the rates are cheaper in the afternoon as no sane person will be out in the desert sun during that time of the day.

As for food, most of the casinos have great restauran

North of Vegas has towns dedicated to golfing. There are many courses in the Mesquite area.

The first question is whether you plan to have a car during your stay. You really don't need one. If you opt to not have a car, you are sort of limited to cab ride distance. But that doesn't mean you'll have to spend megabucks to play.  A few closer-in courses that immediately come to mind, that are good value (comparatively speaking):

Angel Park (two courses) - Arnold Palmer design - Currently $75 after 11:00 am weekdays

Legacy - Arthur Hills design - Currently $99 weekdays, $75 twilight

Las Vegas National - Currently $99 weekdays, $75 after 1:00 pm

Desert Pines - Around $75 in the afternoon

Revere (two courses) - Billy Casper design - Currently $84 after 1:00 pm

So there are some lower cost options for very nice courses. I didn't include the goat tracks.

If money is no option, or if you don't mind driving longer distances, there are lots of courses to play. Some are VERY expensive, but others are not too bad.

I have played Arroyo Golf Club at Red Rock, Siena Golf Club and The Badlands. All three were very nice and under $100. Check on line for deals. Added bonus, Dr. J. was warming up next to me on the mats last summer at the Badlands.

You really should consider playing Piatue, the Wolf course. It's about 45 minutes from Vegas and the course and view is fantastic. Depending on the time of year you go the rates are very reasonable. I'm a professional photographer and former assistant golf pro who started playing again after 8-9 years off. This is a shot I took this January.

Really?  There are a TON of good courses out there, some of which have already been mentioned in this thread.  I certainly wouldn't call most of them "wasting your time....."

maybe poor choice of words, i find Vegas to be such a crazy busy trip that it is hard to do it all...LOL i always said i would never take a golf trip there - but i have. The difference is when we go to Pinehurst, or Myrtle or Florida we tend to play 36 a day or until to dark to finish in the winter if we cant fit in 36. In Vegas...well not so much. it is hard for me to fit in 18 holes everyday. half the time people don't go to bed before 3am (or later for some of us) so it is tough to get up before 10!!! Based on that - IMO it is only worth playing the very top of the food chain and preferably ones that are very close as well. Cascada, Rio, Shadow Creek, Mirage...not many others. just due to the town and the other things not the golf.

I have been told that...again it is really about level of degeneration and what you want to do with time in vegas. to be honest there is a better chance of getting me to go on a trip to Mequite for a couple day and play Wolf daily paired with another course...got back from vegas "golf trip" 3 weeks ago. daily routine below.

Up at about 7, coffee and craps until 930 maybe blackjack, golf and transportation to and from 10 to 530 or so, clean up, dinner , craps, blackjack, drinking till sleep and or poker at Bellagio from from roughly 8 to 4AM or even later depending on the game or table....repeat but wake up about an hour later each day...IE day 2 wake up at 8 day 3 wake up 9 day 4 running for the car at 10!!!!!

just don't have time for the extra travel!!

on the other side leave in 19 days for Pinehurst - 4 days, 8 rounds, T off at 745 and 145 every day! Vegas does does weird shit to me and seems many other people as well.

wow - I'm worn out just from reading about your daily activities in Vegas ... I'd need a vacation from that vacation !!     But then again, I'm not a gambler & spent practically zero time when I was there in the casino's - my trip was all about the golf ... I do admire your stamina - I don't think I could have pulled that off in my 20's !

Cascata is quite a lengthy drive out toward Boulder City. Plus, don't you have to stay at Caesar's to play there? And don't you have to stay at a Wynn property to play Shadow Creek? Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that's the way it used to be.

my first post started with it depends what you want to spend...I didn't book Vegas trip so I don't know about Shadow Creek. We did stay at Ceasars for 2 reasons Cascata was couple hundred lower staying there (I assume that means you don't have to) plus it is right next to B and that was the poker room we wanted to play in, so it worked very well. You are correct on what you want to do...last time I was in Vegas my Freshman son was not potty trained... in that same time frames i have played some where around 1k rounds of golf. Based on that math and how much I enjoy poker and gambling it seemed ok!! Plus like i mentioned earlier we had the Pinehurst trip booked for 6 weeks after we returned so it isn't like we weren't getting to go on a really golf trip!

LOL took redeye home landed at 6 am and went to bed till 3, went to bed that night at 9 and slept 5 the next morning...yep tank was 100% empty upon return.

I would like to recommend Bear's Best. It is maybe 20 minutes west of the strip straight down Flamingo Rd. Premium rate is listed as $189 but cheaper rates are available based upon tee time.
