Hi guys, my first question here to all of you :-D Does golf ball "actually" has impact on your game ? I'm talking about brand new golf ball here. If so, how can you tell the differences ? Such as high spin, extra distances , etc etc Cuz to be honest, i have no idea or feel nothing, never bothered much about the golf balls, my coach told me to start to choose 1 brand, but everything feels same to me :~( Does Anybody know a test method , so i can spot the strength and weakness of those balls and start to fool around with them for a while ? Coach is correct.  Choose any that fit your budget and color preference, new or good used OK.  If you were a beginning piano student would you demand a  Steinway for practice?

Yup, im trying to differentiate couple balls, but they are all feels the same hahaha, anyway gotta try harder , beside what are u guys looking at when choosing ball anyway ? Except the looks or the logo ?

Welcome to the forum @Shagia .  It is cool to have people from all over the world on this forum.

For choosing a ball, start at the green and work back to the tee.  Higher spin balls like the Titleist ProV1 will perform differently around the green than distance balls.  I find that they will check up a bit more on chips and roll out less on pitches than distance balls.

Next are approach shots.  With a ProV1 or similar, I can get a 7 or 6 iron to hold the green better.  A distance ball will tend to roll out more on the second bounce with a six iron.

Finally at the tee, spin will affect flight.  I am not a real high swing speed guy, 90 - 93 with driver.  I find the ProV1 will curve a tiny bit more than the ProV1x, but not enough to push me one way or the other.  If I had a higher swing speed, it may be more of an effect.

When you're just learning how to hit the ball, anything round is good. When you feel you can hit the ball well, go with a softer cover ball. The closer you can get the ball to stop where you hit it on the green the better. I buy the slightly used balls (Grade AA) because they're half the price. I typically don't lose balls, so a dozen balls lasts me a long time. When they get too scuffed, I launch them into the bay. When you get to the point where you understand how your ball will react (especially on the green), stick with one ball. No two brands are exactly alike. Chipping (and putting) with a Top Flite is completely different than chipping with a Pro V1. Also, I don't like low compression balls since my swing speed is pretty high and I lose distance. If your swing speed is low, they will actually give you a little kick and not feel quite so hard.

I was in the same boat as you when I wanted to play one ball permanently. I began with how the ball felt off the putter, without feel I have no idea where that ball is going... Next, after I figured what kind of feel i liked from there, I checked what balls did around the green. What kind of spin can I get with my swing. Finally, how does the ball feel off my most used irons. To me, I dont care what the ball feels like off the driver because a well hit shot feels great and a terrible one is not going to feel good no matter the ball.  Hope that helps!

Recommendations:

CHEAP: Wilson Staff 50/50 or DUO- Great price for a decent ball

Middle of the Road: Callaway SuperSoft or TMAG Project a- super soft but lots of spin around the green

Not cheap: Titleist ProV series or NXT series/Nike RZN/TMAG TP series

Alright, i did test 4 balls today played for 9 hole Using titleist, callaway, srixon and taylormade My titleist veolcity score 40 My callaway speed regime score 47 My srixon z star score 42 My taylormade rocketballz score 39 During tee off Rsult are varied, but callaway give me more distance than the rest most of the time Distance 1. Callaway somehow always 5-10 m more distance 2. Best thing to do is play the ball that feels best to you (I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to feel differences on chips and putts...but anyway).

Since you don't feel much difference (or care?) normally I would say to play the ball you think you hit the farthest but in your test you scored the worst with that ball.

Outside of hating the feel of some of the cheaper balls that feel like I am hitting a marble it doesn't make a whole lot of difference in my scores which ball I play. Personally the Tour level balls from any company would be just fine, the mid-priced balls I may or may not like, and I don't like most of the cheapest balls.
