Wait, is it legit to ask about the iron selection??

Before the round? Yes. :)

Well, I think I know that of a regular tourney, but I guess the single iron game is prob different.

That's something each group will decide on I thought? Also, I've never done a single club type round before either. Should be interesting.

Yes, each group select their own. I knew that much too. I guess some strategy involved. Just curious.

This idea of checking out the course with a practice round on Saturday is starting to sound better and better. Which iron do most of you chose for the single iron game? I've never played one and sounds really cool. Would it be played off the blue tees as well?

Forced carry over the ravine from the 1st hole blue tees is about 180 yards.  Similar on #4.  May affect your choice of single club?  Unless you plan on bunting your tee shots down to the gold tees.

Yeah, would think bunting would be best on back end. I don't see a whole lot of use of loft except par 3s, but I guess you can bunt them too.

Yea if we are playing the blues with one club only. I am thinking my 190-195 club. Hopefully I wont end up in a bunker, that would suck. This way I am pretty much going to be able to reach all the par 5's in three and probably all but one par 4 in two, and be able to reach all the par 3's. Not too bad.

Pretty much. He plays some game improvement irons, strong lofted clubs. Let him enjoy saying it's an 8 iron, we all know its basically a 6 or 7 iron in better player clubs. :-D

If we are playing a one club challenge, I think I'll just go play my third from the drop area on forced carry holes and save the ball. ;-)

Yeah, it's a 7 iron in loft and length. But hey, it's still my "8" iron by the number on the bottom!

Yeah, it's like a handicap adjustment for lofts. :D

Meh, I'd be just as happy with clubs with "normal" lofts. I always disclaim any shot I make with clubs at a certain distance with "this is actually a club higher than the number says" if someone asks me what I hit.

I'd actually like to get clubs with more standard lofts, and am looking at getting some soon. Probably not by this weekend though.

I need all the help I can get.  I don't care who I fool.

When you get new ones, maybe we could swing a trade.

Just messing with you dude. You hit what you hit as long as you like it. I dont' think standard lofts of 'players iron' these days are really standard either. Oldies from 70s/80s will tell you up and down all about it all day.

I wasn't upset, but it does annoy me that lofts have gotten so cranked on game improvement irons. I actually mess about with some old Titleist Lite100 blades, lucky to get an 8 iron to go 150 with those. I am more wanting the different clubs because I don't need the help getting the ball in the air that these clubs offer.
