drop one of the wedges, most preferably the sand wedge. You can use a Lob wedge to get out of the sand you dont need a sand wedge. The 5 wood is a really important club, dont get rid of that.

Id say any of the wedges, go on the course with 15 clubs, play a normal game, check which wedge that you barely use. (There has to be one) and drop that one.

Good luck!

I would say it really depends on the type of course you play. I would say 5 wood (sorry Dent). I can't remember for certain, and I don't have my book with me, but I think Dave Pelz suggests getting rid of your 6 iron. But I would have to double check that.

I disagree with dropping the sand wedge. That could be one of the most versatile clubs in your bag. Without knowing anything about your game I say drop the lob wedge or 3 iron.

Depending on your iron game, silliwili probably had it right. I'd personally drop the 5-Wood, but the 5-wood and 3-iron would be my top 2 canidates.

Easily the 3 iron. Unless you are a 5-6 hcp or better, 3 iron is very difficult to hit from the turf.

A possible exception to this - maybe extending the range to a 12-15 hcp - would be if you play on a course where you like to tee off with a 3 iron on several holes.

You could dump one of the wedges, but you'll use them more than either the 3 iron or 5 wood, I'll bet.

I'm thinking 3 iron mostly. But what are the lofts/bounce of your wedges?. Maybe one of them is almost the same as another.

I agree between 3i and 5w. What are your distances with each, and which do you hit more consistently?

I have the same setup as you minus the 5w. I hit my 3 iron pretty well and I hit it about 205. I hit the 3w about 220, so I don't have any room for a 5w in there.

I would agree with dumping the 3 iron, although Dent has a point about the SW also. Seriously how many times will a SW get used? I have used a LW, PW, even an 8 or 9 iron to get out of the sand, no real trick to it.

I believe it is always good to be flexible by course and conditions but as a general overview I'd drop that 3 iron in a heartbeat! My 5 wood is actually a "go to" club - and I see that with so many golfers these days. I wouldn't touch the wedges regardless of course or conditions.

There is likely a different answer for almost everyone of us - that is what makes this sport so interesting. Paladin

NO NO NO!!!! Dont drop a wedge. Drop the 5 wood or the 3 iron, but I would personally drop the 3 iron. You need the wedges in your bag for scoring opportunities. How often do you stick your 5wood or 3 iron close? You can make the distance gaps up there by choking up with the 5 or really going after the 3iron. Scoring comes from your game 150 and in. The more clubs you have that you can put full swings on from these distances, the better your scoring is going to be, assuming that you get the ball on line, an you know your distances. I mean really, how often can you use a 3 iron in a round??? KEEP THE WEDGES MAN!!!

Play a round with all of them and find out which one you don't use. Personally, I say get rid of the 5 wood.

Since this is your first year playing drop the lob or driver. better to hit 3 wood off the tee. to be good with a lob you need practice. being new to the game you should play with the clubs that will give you more confidence.
