Nice that you played the round. Were you playing from the tournament setups?

Yeah. It plays long. I hit some really solid tee shots all day and the wind I think helped and hurt me. I didn't get as much out of landing areas with my tee shots because of it unless the wind happens to be about the same.

Scouted the course yesterday. Didn't play so hot.. Shot 79 which wont cut it but I really didn't have much focus because I was hitting additional shots here and there. I made zero birdie putts and had about 12 feet on 5 different occasions. I know my nemesis will be #18 though and I may end up taking my medicine, laying up in front of this creek that is right in front of the green and giving myself a chance to get up and down or worst case take a bogey. I will have to see where I fall. I shot a 74 the day before on a shorter course with friends with 3 3 putts on extremely slow greens then I went to the club and the pro said they had them at an 11 but are trying to get 12.5 for the tourney. only 3 days left and I will be teeing it up. More to come soon.

You think 11 are extremely slow? Wow. Probably only 1 course I play that ever gets them that fast, that lightening to me.

No, sorry. The course I played the day before was like a 7 which were extremely slow lol. 11 is perfect I think.

Ah, ok, I misinterpreted, thought u went into the clubhouse after your round and they told you greens were at 11. My error. ;)

I don't have any advice to give but only wish you good luck and hope you'll give a TR when it's over.

So just a day and a half to go and I am starting to feel a little bit of how maybe Dan McGlaughlin(spelling?) feels. I guess that even if I throw up a bad round, I still have proof of some really solid tournament rounds. Although I have practiced and practiced something doesn't feel right or maybe it is the pressure going into it. My boss has sent out an e-mail telling I am playing in a pro tournament along with the link to the page which I wasn't really expecting as well as family and friends. They all know I play in a lot of tournaments but I can only imagine how Dan feels when 4000 people who are following him. Anyways, lots of pressure with you guys out there. I have knocked guys for bad rounds but all of those negative thoughts will go away on the course, they always do. They only creep in when I am already 12 over and I have to answer to everyone who was paying attention. The goal is to focus on the process, not get mad at the result, and try my best on every shot. I have my last practice round today at a course that is shorter, but very similar layout. If I had to grade myself on my last 4 rounds I would give my tee shots a B, my wedge game an A, my long iron shots a B-, my chipping an A and my putting a B-. I still believe I can make the cut with some heavy focus and typically play better in a tournament setting. I have been averaging 3 birdies a round which I am happy with. Will have an update shortly. There is a link that updates every three holes.. should I post it on here?

Well... the news from my big tournament isn't so good. Shot two under the first day. I was feeling good. T15 after day one, only 4 amateurs beat me. 154 total players. Then shot... +9 today and missed the cut by one shot. Unbelievably disappointed. But that is how golf works. I will keep trying. Good luck to you, I hope you do better than I did. I am sure you will.

Take what you can from it and do better next time.

You demonstrated -2 in a high pressure situation.  next time you'll do it two or three days in a row for sure.

Round us complete but I'm a little worried. I shot a mediocre 76 and they have me online at a 77... hopefully I'm not am idiot and sign an incorrect card. The good news is I was even on all parts 4s over 480

Nice job!

1 stroke off on the count? If there some obvious place where they could have misread the hole score?

You're not responsible for the math. Just 18 numbers in the boxes for 18 holes.

You can write 14 down in the "total" box if you want - it doesn't matter.

Well I really think it was the issue with live scoring. They verbally ask and there was an error on who kept my card at 3. He had double down and I actually had a bogey so we changed it at the scoring tent but never was updated online. I'll talk with them tomorrow.. just hoping it's not worst case scenario

    • I kind of like this interpretation especially if you think about it the unplayable rule would probably put you in a better spot.  using back on the line releief.
    • I did not realize that, I was thinking a more traditional golf club.
    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
