Played today and had trouble with the driver again, four hooks and two pushes. So I filmed my swing to submit to my Evolvr instructor. The two DTL views are a high push and lower hook, or at least they felt that way. I put ribbon on the net to show launch angle, because I’m a nerd I guess.😜. They are roughly 15, 20, 25 and 30 degrees from the center of the mat.

What is this “roughly” nonsense? If they’re not accurate measurements I’m going to have to ask you to turn in your nerd card.

The measurements are accurate, but the net sags a bit, so they’re +/- a half degree or so. 😜

Sounds like you didn’t factor in that variable when you “measured” it 😜

The ranges are still not open, so I created a modified gate drill to help with starting the ball out to the right. I set up aiming at an intermediate target at the edge of my mat that aligned with the yellow strapping. This starts the ball about 5 degrees right of dead straight of where my toe line would have it. I think this will help me on the course. Hitting the strapping means the ball started on the correct line. The thin yellow cord is dead center for the iron shot.

I sent in a driver video to Evolvr. My instructor recommended staying the course and opening the face and playing a push which should draw slightly, which I have been practicing. Also, he wants me to focus on the steep at A3 to shallow at A5, A6 feel. I think maybe on the course I have been overdoing the palmar flexion at the top. Below, I’m feeing the flexion only in my left index finger then swinging out a bit and driving the swing with my right elbow.

The ball launches higher with this alignment. I’ll have to do some MEVO work to adjust. I can lower the loft on the driver or playing with position.

I did the same for the 6 iron.

It’s getting closer. I will stay this course and work on that feel on the course.

Shot a 41 with no hooks! Had three up and downs and only 13 putts with 5 one putts.

Finally, you see the light. Just going to leave this here as a reminder for you:

Worked on driver and 6 irons drills today. Same punch drill work then full swing. Below are driver and 6 irons. Still have clubface control issues and will be working on that for a bit.

Worked with a little different feel today to help swing out more. From A4, I wanted to feel like I was driving the hands and butt of the club down toward the ball to about A5.5 and have the right elbow drive the arms. I also played the 3 wood just off my left heel to get more launch angle.

Worked on less palmar flexion the last three days. Ball flight calms down and I had less hooks. Need a bit more work on this

6 iron and driver working on the same feel, steep at A3 to shallow at A5. The sensation is the club head dropping down from the top.

Went to the range today and worked on setup and alignment. After feedback from @billchao and @jamo, I’ve adjusted my pre-shot routine to aim the club face slightly right of target, then set my feet open to the face so my foot line aims left of target. I kept my shoulders slightly closed to my feet as well along. I know the path will be in to out this way, but it seems to correct the alignment issue.

I practiced the set up and put the club along my toe line then stepped back to see where it was aiming. I also paid close attention to where the ball was relative to my left heel because opening the stance puts the ball back.

Ball flight then became higher and was a push draw or push and no real hooks, which is my miss. I think I will practice this for a few more range sessions to get it to sink in. I’ll go to different ranges if possible to get different looks. Today was at a covered range with mats because it was raining. I’m a little OCD about lines and symmetry and sometimes the straight lines of the mats or ropes at ranges can mess with me. I have to focus to eliminate them in my head.

Parallax messes me up a lot, too, as we talked about. I keep aiming my feet at my target instead of parallel left of my target. You hit a lot of "pushes" that were basically straight shots, but you kept aiming right of what you thought you were aiming at.

You guys are weird. I see no lines at all. The only thing I do is aim the face, then set up to the club. I often pick different targets on the range and will stand at different angles to however the mat is lined up.

Lots of people seem to have this issue, though, so maybe I'm the weird one

I can easily out-OCD you on this times 3. Hell, sometimes it takes me 30-35 secs just get my visual cues sorted before I can pull the trigger. I am sure you know this but I think its a peripheral vision thing. I find a point from the corner of my left eye towards the target, may be the target itself to establish a larger 'anchor' to supercede close range mis-alignment. I have hit shots 40 degs to right when I loose my distant visual 'anchor'. I try to maintain it throughout the swing. I said 'try' a few times here.. lol.

When I hit off mats I always have to square them up to the concrete base right in front of them.  If there's a deviation in that angle I'm all screwed up.  But then there's my friend who moves tee blocks on the course to suit his eye.

Squaring up a block is one thing but moving? Bit grey. Lol.

Sorry @boogielicious don't mean to hijack your thread..😊

There was one tee this Sunday that I almost moved. It was pointing 30 or more degrees away from the fairway. We were staring at it like WTF!

    • He's not and GEARS doesn't really measure toward your midline. It's measured at the joint. That's not why his use of "midline" is bad (part of the reason is that your "midline" is twisted, the top of your sternum can be pointed at a different place than the belt buckle, and your shoulders protract and retract, too. I think he's just trying to use midline to say which way the arm is moving. But they have terms for that — adduction and abduction — so whatever.
    • They weren't necessarily short - I don't remember the exact specifics of all of it, but some of them were missing a little left or right or both. Day 1 they were landing on the edge and kicking on, where day 2 they were just missing and kicking down into the bunkers and did it a lot. I think all told I actually went into bunkers on 8 holes. Some of them were not good shots. Like a few examples, on 8, the pin was in the back. I hit it solidly, but pulled it and it went long, over the bunker into long grass. I had the ball in sandy earth with long grass around it and about a foot below my feet. That next shot I tried to do what I could but it went into the bunker in front of me. Into a footprint. That one I dug out of the footprint, but still in the bunker. Got that one out of the bunker, but into the fringe grass in front of me. Chipped that one on a bit hard and two putts later made a 7. Another was on 14. The flag was on the little finger of green front left. I tried to play a little past it and a little right. Shoved it maybe 10 yards right of where I wanted to and the carry over the bunker gets longer the further right you go and that one hit the grass between the green and the bunker and came back down into the sand, left it in there and didn't get up and down on the next one. I think carrywise it carried about as far as I was planning on it doing so. Another was on 6, leaked my drive a little right into the fairway bunker. Hit a nearly good shot from there that went a little left and a little short and kicked into the bunker front left. That was a strike thing and just a hard shot. Did similar on 18. Drive in the right bunker, slightly heavy second that hit the bank between green and bunker again and kicked back into the sand. I think the tiredness manifested more as not squaring the face up so well and less as slowing down.
    • Depends on how short you were coming up on these shots. A bit more wind? Also, maybe you were swinging at 2-3 mph slower the next day.  I think the biggest thing is not adjusting. Like making assuming your stock shot is not enough and taking 1 club up. Not sure what type of adjustments you were making in your decision making.
    • No one should measure a joint mobility away from that joint. If you go to physical therapy, they are not measuring your knee mobility based on your midline. It is based at the joint. Shoulder mobility should be measured in reference to the shoulder joint.
    • He's using a driver swing, while I used the iron swing. Bryson goes from about 65° B to 15° B, hence the 50°. If you bend your right elbow, you're going to pull your hands across your chest some. Conversely, if you abduct your right arm and hold onto a grip with your left arm, you can see how extending the right elbow as we do in the golf swing during the downswing will "pull" the right shoulder/humerus forward (adducting it, as going from 65° to 15° of abduction is). Even people who pull their right shoulder WAY too far around them eventually get it "back in front" when their right arm/elbow extends. So, such a motion shows up as shoulder adduction even though the movement that causes it is just widening the trail elbow. The left hand on the grip almost "pulls" the hands forward as the left arm can't stretch much (there's some shoulder protraction, but that's almost maxed out at P4). Oh, I downloaded it and watched it (and commented there) before he blocked me. It's what led to him posting the comment in the "update" above. 😄  Single shoulder range of 75°, and that's going out well into the follow-through. 50° Max range up to impact. Manavian's video is bad. He keeps saying "midline" which is just a horrible way to look at it. He also kept saying that the club was moving that amount — also wrong. Adding left and right together is really freaking dumb. Another golf instructor said "That's like saying the player has 100 degrees of knee bend (adding left knee bend to right knee bend) 🤦‍♂️" (similar to what the biomechanist said about squatting). Also, see my post above about elbow bend. That's why Plummer’s alignment stick demo is so intellectually dishonest. A golfer can't get anywhere near that position on the left with his left hand on the alignment stick (quoted below).
