Right now I am playing really well.  I had been focusing on getting my hands deeper and not picking up the club early in the backswing.  I am keeping my right elbow tucked to my side so I don't feel like the club is flattening out by getting my hands deeper.  I feel that I am staying more on plane during my backswing and it has really seemed to set me up in a great position to attack the ball.  Since these changes in feel, I haven't really analyzed my swing on camera.  The question is, when things are going well should you just forget about analyzing your swing?  Maybe I should be analyzing to see what is working?  The problem I fear there is that I will find something I don't like as I always do.  I will make some alteration and it will throw things off.  Anyone else struggle with this or have any suggestions on how to not mess things up when you are playing well?  Maybe I should just get on Evolvr finally so that I can be instructed to make the right changes and not create issues when I am playing well.

I am past analyzing my swing. I know what I'm supposed to do, to make the ball go (reasonably) where I want it to go. If the ball flies some where else, I know where to start looking for the issue that caused the mis-hit at impact.

Now if someone has the equipment to analyze their swing properly, then by all means they should be using it. Both for the bad, and the good swings. Being able to view both good, and bad swings are equally important.

What's more important than using the proper equipment is being able to see the good and bad swing issues. If the golfer does not know what to look for, using the best equipment in the world is of little use.

One important question I think is important is, is that part of the swing hurting your ball striking. I am sure a lot of people hate how their swing looks. Looks don't really matter much when it comes to the outcome.

For me, I use video with guidance from a very good instructor. You can use Evolvr for this. The key for me is, get instruction, and shown what image I need to change and then I go about using a camera to change it. Using a camera is a great tool, but it can also be a double edge sword and hurt the swing. Basically I would use the camera in moderation and if you are confused about something always seek someone who is more knowledgeable than you (like Evolvr).

Ok so you are working on

- Hands deeper

- Not picking the club head up on the backswing

If you were to film yourself, those are the things that you check. You kind of have to be a Stupid Monkey about it, not let yourself get distracted by trying to fix other pieces. I would agree Evolvr would be a great option, they'll tell you what your priority piece is and how to improve it.

I would video a couple angles and save it for later when your swing starts sucking donkey.  Then go look at what you were doing when you were striking the ball like a boss.

I would say video it and don't look at it until later.  ;)

My fear is that the image on camera isn't as great as the current feel and results.  As ridiculous as it sounds, even when things are good I manage to find a way to mess it up when I start filming my swing.  Then that minor change leads me to changing other things and it escalates. I think the answer is simple, I just need to get on Evolvr to nail down a priority piece.  It is tough for me to be a Stupid Monkey without complete confidence in the piece I am working on.

I've gotten to the point the only video I look at is what my instructor sends me. When I was taking my own I got hung up on trying to make pretty swings for the camera. He's not camera crazy either. We work mostly on FlightScope and he takes a few at the beginning of the session and a few at the end to demonstrate how we made progress, before and after stuff and the piece I need to work on is demonstrated with that. I let him provide the feedback rather than setting up all that gear at the range, as a result my practice has become more efficient. If I start to slip I catch it pretty quick, do a few drills and get back to where I need to be.

He's got me in group practice sessions now. Doesn't want to see me for a full one on one lesson until get to the point where I am ready to work on something else. Which is good because those are $35 and hour every other week compared to $140 for a lesson. I get 1/4 hour on the monitor and a couple a vids each time if it's a full swing session.

I need some help guys ive recently completely lost the sweet contact that i used to get on my taylormade RBZ irons so a few questions i wanna ask. help wud be appreciated:

1) i have Rocketbladez tour irons with stiff kbs tour shafts. i had their lenghts increased a bit since im 6'2 and the smaller ones didnt suit me. Did i do the right thing? my clubs are very heavy now. So much so that after hitting like 10 balls with a club i need to give my wrist a 1 minute break.

2) i tend to stand sometimes too far from the ball and sometimes too close. What is the exact place to stand?

3) i have a medium backswing with an extremely fast downswing hence my distances are slightly longer i.e 9 iron goes abt 165. but when i get sweet contact i usually hit the ball a little to the left it goes straight though why is this happening?

4) and im hitting my driver very low. Plus the driver fades alot if i add power. i have a 9.5 rbz with regular 60gram shaft. should i switch to stiff since all my other clubs are stiff?
Thanks in advance :)

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
