In my last round, I hit a 52 wedge, divot started just where ball met ground, more pork chop than bacon strip, but I think I was steep and was 20 yards short but on line. Guessing I caught it high on the face?

Yeah, I think it could be that or maybe a flip. I know that I occasionally will hit a wedge with what feels like great contact, good sound at impact, nice high trajectory, perfectly online, exactly as I pictured it and land 10 yards short. Divot seems fine...file and forget... :hmm:

From what I read it appears more like a "thin" shot than a "fat" shot. Where is the start of the divot? I define it fat if divot starts before the ball. The divot can extend and be shallow or deep.

I've never had a thin shot end up short, they always go further than intended.

What's your definition of "thin" then? When I hit the ball on the screws it goes farther than one that I hit "thin". There no standard definition for "thin" shots

Thin is low on the face, near blading it. I thought that was pretty much the definition of a thin shot.

There are different levels of thin. For me a thin shot usually flies shorter but rolls out, so the distance isn't too far off. Depending on the landing area, it could be longer or shorter than my normal shot. When I am talking thin, I am saying like a few grooves low on the clubface (not a bladed shot)
