Well, day two of practice rounds start today.

Yesterday we played the Buan Namwon course which stretches out to just over 7300yards! Thankfully we didn't play the 247y par 3 from the back so that made the course a little shorter, although it was still at 217y. That being the case this course didn't feel like 7300yards. I think its because a lot of the yardage is in the par 5s, automatic 3-shot holes. I did have a few holes with long irons in on par 4s, but for the most part I was hitting 7, 8 or 9. The greens are HUGE, but pretty flat. They roll true enough and maybe to about a 9.5 or 10 on the stimp. I shot 2 over yesterday which I was pretty happy with. Made a triple on a par-5. Just a total brain fart collapse from 60y in! Anyway.

Today is on to the Jeonjun Sunchang course, which if I remember correctly plays to 7144y. Another bit of a beast. It seems like the water may come into play a little bit more on this course. Yesterday it was there, but it would require some seriously stray shots to find the hazard. This one it looks like its a little closer from the fairway.

I'll be checking back in tomorrow. Anyeonghikeseyo.

Well, practice round number two was interesting. On paper, an easy enough course. Generous fairways and the greens were fantastic. The only problem, 4 club winds! All day! Kinda kills a practice round as I couldn't really get any feel for yardage. On a 401y par 4, I went Driver, 3wood and was still 30y short! On a number of occasions I hit my 5i from 140y, which I normally hit 195!

In a way, the wind can be a good thing. Really seperate the players that belong from the players that don't. And thankfully, my home course is renowned for having really windy days at least four days of the week from November to March.

I'm at the course right now. I have two friends playing today and tomorrow. I plan on following one guy around and really study the greens. Then I'm off on my first round on Thursday.

This thread should be a sticky (if it isn't already) and should have an asterisk beside it. I love it.

What a dumb day! 48*, 3-4 club wind all day! It gets better. 12/14 Fairways, 13/18GIR, Not bad, right? 36putts, 36 PUTTS!!! Bad! What a joke. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to break my putter over my knee. But, I stayed calm, or convinced myself I was calm. I guess tomorrow is another day. Scores aren't posted yet. I think I've got to shoot 66 at least, to have a chance. Wish me luck!

    • While on vacation in Punta Cana a few weeks ago I played with rental clubs, Mizuno Pro 245's with KBS Tour Lite steel shafts. Surprisingly, I was blown away, not only by the distance, trajectory and dispersion I was getting but also about how soft and buttery they felt. It got me thinking.... IT'S TIME FOR NEW IRONS! Just yesterday, at my local Golf Galaxy, I tested them again side by side with the JPX Forged (recommended by the Mizuno rep who happened to be there) which also felt pretty good. Not as buttery soft as the 245's but they did produce slightly better numbers on off-center hits. Also, I haven't played with forged clubs with steel shafts in 10 years thinking I was getting too old and that I needed the lighter weight but these clubs with that shaft felt really, really good. So that's my long and drawn-out intro to my question: Does anyone here at TST play with either of these clubs and if so, what's your opinion?

    • By today’s standards that’s certainly true, but they weren’t having any trouble hitting golf balls in 2005 so I’ve equipped myself with what was among the very best equipment around that time for a very reasonable investment. If I get to the point where I feel like I’ve outgrown that stuff, I’ll reward myself with something more current. But for now I don’t need adjustable loft and lie and modern head shape, just a good quality, proven club with a clean club face. For now I’m going to concentrate on the basics. I know you can get more yardage with newer woods, but I don’t care about distance nearly as much as consistency, and you can’t buy that for any price.
