Bandon is a pretty nice course. I have played there 5, or 6  times. What did the guy score who won it?

In My Bag:
A whole bunch of Tour Edge golf stuff......

So let's say course is ~5 miles. 8 minute mile, no golf. 40 minutes. Throw in 76 strokes in 6 minutes, that's ~13 sec/stroke. Guy in 2nd place 0.5 seconds behind - he is a speedster too. 7 min miles maybe? The last place amateur finished in about 77 minutes, scored 105.

These guys are seasoned runners, they run faster than 8 min miles. I'm gonna do this one day.

Yeah. The guy in the photo looks like a 7 min mile 10k guy. Probably sub seven.

Yeah that's one way to put it. Nick Willis won the silver medal at the 2008 olympics in the 1500m. So probably one of the fastest middle distance runners in the world. Still only shot 97 though.

I didn't even look them up, I was just judging on form alone. I used to be a sub 5 minute miler, and that form is a bit better than mine ever was.

I'm guessing 6 minute miles, or faster.

I use to run 5 miles in 30 minutes as a recreational runner (6 minute miles).  High School track and/or cross country teams run much faster than that.  Elite runners can run 5 minute miles for an entire marathon (26.2 miles).

Similar to a biathlon.  I remember from watching the biathlon, (cross country skiing and shooting a rifle), in the winter Olympics... part of the skill set was the competitors had the ability to quickly slow their heart beat, and pull the trigger between heart beats.  Similarly, it seems it would be optimal to settle your breathing and slow your heart beat before you swing the club in speed golf.

Is that four clubs in the picture above?

If you were to do this (and if you're not a fast runner, let's pretend you are), if you were to do this, how many clubs and which clubs would you choose?

For me, being a high handicapper, I'm wanting to keep it as straight as possible. 6 iron, wedge, putter. Three clubs.

Doh! If he's a 1500m Olympic Medal winner, then he's probably around 5 minute and change per mile for 10k.

No Jason Dufner body types in this field.

  • 3 weeks later...

I am a pretty fast player so these guys don't impress me.  My buddy and I tee off first thing in the morning and have no problem finishing in under 60 minutes and last time, I shot 85 ... what? ... they played 18?  ... and they were running not riding in a cart?

Never mind.

Probably closer to 4:30 min/mile for the 10k. He did the 5000m in 13:34 earlier this year.

    • Day 48. Got out at lunch to the range to hit some driver shots. Haven’t had much practice there. Focused on setup suggested by @iacas and found some very playable results. I did try to hit a couple of bunker shots after that with much less success 🙃
    • Got a rare birdie on #18 Par 5.  Drive was good and left me in range of the green.  I was @ 210 from the center and needed @ 180 to clear a hazard area.  Green had bunkers lest, right and on back. had been struggling and most shots were short so I took the 225 club figuring back of green hit well. i did hit it well, @ 229 per SS and dead on—kind at the pin.  Ended up @ 1 foot off the back in short rough and lucky for me it was a back pin placement.  Chipped about 15 feet leaving a 3 feet putt for par which I sunk.
    • Yea, so to clarify for me. I do not feel the clubface much in the swing. I feel the weight of the club. I can feel if I hit the club off the heel or toe. When I try to feel if the clubface is open or closed in the swing, I feel it more with my hands, and less of the clubhead. I would classify majority of my swings as not feeling like the clubface does much of all. It feels like I hold the clubface open. In the finish, it doesn't feel like my left hand faces the ground. It feels more like it faces the sky. I will try to be more aware of this, but it was just the sensation I got when I was making what felt like good swings. For the most part, I was hitting slight draws or slight pushes.  On this golf trip, I had to hit a low 8 iron around a tree to the green. I made an alignment adjustment, and actively try to roll my hands a bit more to get it to sling around the corner. I do have a habit of not adjusting how the clubface comes through impact, and I can still hit the ball straight-ish even moving the ball way back in my stance and trying to swing out more.  Yea, my feels are more hands and arms, less actually feeling the clubface.
    • That truly had me laughing. Thanks If anyone is interested Sun Day Red is live. I clicked on the hats, seem they are sold out. Shorts 130 bucks, shirts 120, everything seems to be sold out already, at least from what I clicked on. 130 for shorts, I'll pass.
