December 23 is widely celebrated as Festivus . Originally a family tradition of scriptwriter Dan O'Keefe, who worked on the American sitcom Seinfeld, the holiday entered popular culture after it was made the focus of a 1997 episode of the program. The holiday's celebration, as it was shown on Seinfeld, includes:

1) a Festivus dinner;

2) an unadorned aluminum Festivus pole;

3) practices such as the "Airing of Grievances" and "Feats of Strength"; and,

4) the labeling of easily explainable events as "Festivus miracles".

The Airing of Grievances:

My 2014 grievance is that as I get older, the golf ball keeps going shorter distances off my clubhead. I work out daily, eat well, and generally take very good care of my health, but to no avail, old age seems to keep my ball from going distances that I experienced in my 20's and 30's.

On the other hand, today, December 23rd, living in southwest Pennsylvania, I was able to go and play some golf. " It's a Festivus miracle ."

Anyone else willing to share their grievances or miracles?

I love this game! :-D

If the highway is practically empty save yourself some aggravation and just pass them on the right hand lane.

I do, but for the life of me I cannot understand why people feel more comfy in the left lane than the right one. The highway is practically empty when I go to work, yet every day I'll see some jackwagon enter the thruway and immediately go to the left, and there's nobody in front of them!

Maybe they just feel more comfortable having the guardrail on their left side.

What gets me is guys that have summers off because they're school teachers and only play during the week but can't get time away on the weekend to play a round. :whistle:

Now that's a grievance! Lol! Who wants to play on the weekend? Slow rounds, limited availability because of tournaments, playing partners who need a ride to the course...:-)

Oh, it's terrible! I didn't bring any shorts with me to the desert and I'm wearing pants in heat that sometimes got to 75+ degrees.

If you play Furnace Creek in Death valley shorts are a must. In fact, your legs might get burned. Bring lots of sunscreen.

I'll be back up to Albany next week and was thinking of maybe getting a round in Thur or Friday

I played yesterday and it went fine, provided that my playing partner had a keen eye. It started snowing quite heavily in the middle of the round and I don't have any orange golf balls. I suppose you could say that it's a miracle I've gotten 10 rounds in during December in Colorado!

I'm not one of those jackwagons you speak of but maybe the ride is smoother in the left lane.

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
