Thanks so much for the tips guys! I worked on it today at the range but I didn't have anybody there to video me. I worked on really getting my hips through the ball and I had very few pushes. I think my Hip turn was actually pushing to the right of my target line instead of straight through if that makes sense. As for my grip I made sure it was more in the fingers. I still haven't gotten rid of my fade but I have my distance back. I'm back to compressing the golf ball and hearing it hiss through the air with that penetrating ball flight. I'm fading the ball around 10 yards so its definitely manageable.

Well, if this is satisfactory. . .

I'm saying its consistent, not necessarily what I want but it was nice getting out of the course and actually enjoying myself because I was hitting greens like I was.

That's what really counts anyway.

I've been Playing Golf for: 3 years
My current handicap index or average score is: 75-78
My typical ball flight is: draw
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: hook

I feel like I'm getting my club too far inside and it's causing me to sometimes fight a hook with my longer clubs. It also seems like I'm not getting my hips through with the driver. What's odd is I'm still getting great distance. Right now on my  Arccos stat tracker I'm averaging right at 300 yards on my drives. I just feel like my hips are coming through late.  I look forward to hearing some advice!

The angles matter quite a bit, and you're rather small in some of the videos.

People are reluctant to help if the angles aren't right. Also, most modern phones have a slow-mo mode that's quite useful.

Marginally.

Just read the section on camera placement here: https://thesandtrap.com/b/playing_tips/filming_your_swing .

Look… bad on the left, good on the right:

Check your feet position, it appears your right foot is in the "bucket" (an old term of placing the RF an inch or two behind the shoulder line.)
Try flaring your left foot out a tad. It should allow the hips to fire through during the transition.

If you still feel like the hips lag, trigger your downswing with your hips or left knee.
A practice drill - mirror or at the range, stop at the top, then fire. See and feel what the lower body does.
Try without club, iron, then FW wood. Make this practice move a few times in between swings.

First thing I would do is take a look at your posture, your torso bent forward too much IMO. If I drew a line straight down from your armpits it would be in front of your knees and end up on your toes.

Want to have it looking more like this. Armpits over the knees and more on the mid-foot.

More on posture,

I think this will help you rotate better, so you don't get so closed on the downswing (which would lead to the hooks you described).

So I've been working on my posture and tried mimicking more of what I saw in the posture thread. I feel like I may be a little exaggerated, but I have yet to get "stuck" in the down swing. I noticed I'm having a little trouble getting the ball the draw now. IMG_5404.thumb.PNG.0c5e54d8e5a67d9689f9d1a5e9356fc3.PNG

Yeah I felt a bit cramped but I think I fixed that issue. Any reason why i would be favoring a fade now with my shorter irons in this posture? My drives are a nice baby draw along with my long irons, but I can't seem to get my 7,8,9 to turn over like I typically have.

I've been hitting some random hooks here lately and I'm beginning to wonder if maybe my backswing is too flat with the driver. Should I try to work the club more up? I'm driving the ball fairly well, but the hooks seem to happen at bad times. Could this be the likely culprit?

Honestly, driving accuracy is really holding me back at the moment. My iron and short game is strong, but I feel like I miss too many fairways. I drove the ball well today and capitalized on the birdie opportunities I was given due to that. I just don't have the confidence off the tee that I used to have.

I'd address how the shaft works on the backswing, loads too shallow.

Screen Shot 2017-05-11 at 9.02.31 AM.png

Forces you to make some compensations on the downswing (handpath) and right now it's leading to hooks.

Screen Shot 2017-05-11 at 9.02.45 AM.png

Right now with the backswing the hands work out (away from you) and that causes you to roll your arms. So I would suggest working on the opposite, put a tee in your left armpit and feel like you never rotate your arms on the backswing.

Notice the difference between your backswing handpath, left armpit/pec connection at A2 and forearm rotation (where the left elbow is pointed) compared to this swing.

could this be from a overactive right hand in the takeaway? I can take the club back with only my left arm and it seems my takeaway is perfect, but when I put both hands on the club i want to lose that connection.

    • I'll say again… you have a different definition of "temporary" and "speed" than I do. For your handicap to go up FOUR shots means you were through the soft cap and approaching the hard cap. If you did it over 15 rounds (leaving five potentially lower scores), then you played REALLY bad golf over that stretch because it's likely that only three or four of the best of those 15 rounds were actually counted, so if the three or four best scores RAISED your handicap five shots (three at 100%, 2 at 50% once you hit the soft cap), then that's some BAD golf over an extended (not temporary) period of time. And here's the thing… play 15 good rounds, or even just EIGHT, and it'll DROP again, even faster. Handicaps still drop faster than they rise, not only because of the way we calculate it (best 😎 but because of the caps. Right… it's not like you're not needing the shots. You're playing really badly, and your handicap is still lagging behind your play.
