Anybody (other than me) still using an older club you just can't bear to part with?

So, when I started playing, I was using a loaner set of Ping I2 clone irons.  The woods were all original style metals (sized like wooden woods) so I went to the local used sporting goods shops and replaced them with newer stuff on the cheap.

Those woods were a Taylormade 300Ti driver, and Cobra SZ 3 and 5 woods.

The driver and 5 wood have all been upgraded out of the bag, but the 3 wood is still in play.

I am good for 240+ yards off the deck with my trusty old Cobra and it sounds ten times better than anything that I have tried out in stores in current generation clubs.  This past weekend, I hit a shot that was 250 and change while playing 18 holes.

I just can't see parting with my Cobra even though it is 10 years or so old.

So, I was wondering if anyone other than myself is still playing a club significantly older than everything else in the bag that they wanted to pay tribute to here.

My oldest club would have to be my Titliest 910 Fd fairway wood :-D . I got that in 2011.

Haha you young guys with your fancy new clubs. Get off my lawn :-)

My putter is a cushin 4 that I got in high school (early 70's). Even older, look at my avatar (and my screen name). My dad gave it to me when I started out. It's older than I am (I'm 58). Both these clubs are always in my bag.

I still have a thing for that look of the old MacGregors with copper faces.

My oldest club is my Taylordmade R7 driver.  I used it for years, then snapped the shaft and figured I'd try a newer club.  Went through two drivers in pretty quick succession, then just reshafted the R7 and don't plan on replacing it any time soon.  I love the feel of the club, bomb the ball with good (relative to my handicap) aim, and when I'm swinging solidly or better can shape it either way without the movement feeling out of control.  Just hit it better than any other driver I've played.

My irons are only slightly newer (though newer to me, I got them used 3-4 years ago).  But I'm planning on replacing those relatively soon, so they're not clubs I can't see getting rid of.

My putter is the grand daddy in my bag. Probably 15-16 years old. I have tried others through the past years, and I have always come back this old one. I probably have a dozen different putters in storage that I have accumulated over the years that I don't use.

I did take 600 gram putter head off of a belly putter, and put it on 32" putter shaft that works well for me. I would use it if my "gamer" ever became unusable.

I also like my 7 metal wood quite a bit. I'd miss it if any thing happened to it.

Mizuno MP-32 are over ten years old. Got them used for less than $100, and really like them. They are very consistent, I just wish Mizuno made a newer model for lefties. My only potential alternative is the Callaway Apex MB.

Look at my signature. My irons are 36 years old. This is my vintage bag, and I play it most often. I do play newer stuff sometimes though, and in my "modern" bag amongst the cavity backs and hybrids is a Taylor Raylor 16* from about 1990-92. It will be there as long as I can swing it.

I have an early Ping Pal putter (circa 1973) that I got used a few years ago. I played it for three years, after getting a putter fitting.

Right now I have Ping B60 Scottsdale - regripped with a new Winn thick grip and everything. But, the Pal may go back in the bag if the B60 doesn't start sinking some putts.

Am about to put a stiff shaft in my 300ti and start gaming it again. Also just switched from a 120 odyssey two ball to a $3 Sam snead Wilson putter. And there currently is a set of muirfield sticks in the mail that may have a chance of replacing the ap2's , so I guess I am going the other way :)

I started out with a set of clone clubs from Pinemeadow.  I've since replaced everything, but I have yet to find a hybrid that I can hit anywhere near as well as the ones that came with that set.  It's the Command model.  It's one of there older models now, but nothing I've tried compares for me.  I even ordered a couple extra to have out of fear they'd stop making them at some point since it's an older model for them.

My putter is about 7 years old - nothing else like it on the market - its an oversize center shaft, big and heavy.    I've had so many, this no-name is the first putter I've ever had any degree of confidence in ... and the first one I've built a relationship with.

 did I say that ?    Its true .... our putters are the most personal club in our bag & the easiest to break up with if it starts to go bad

My wife has two clubs she'll never part with, and with which she is deadly:  an original Adams Tight Lies Strong 7 wood, and a Tommy Armour W4 60* wedge.  The oldest club I game is an Odyssey Tri-Hot #2 putter that she bought me about 15 years ago.

I have a Cobra Bobby Grace "Soft Lady" putter. I've tried many things the past two months but I can't part from it.

    • This is an awesome breakdown. most of the bigger tournaments usually have one wave with the advantage, Thank you for the breakdown. If it is soft then it will be a lower final score
    • Over the past 15 years, the winning score has ranged from -10 to -20. Mostly around -13.  Here is Thursday and Friday weather. Saturday and Sunday weather. I think the course will play soft. Plenty of sky cover, lots of rain on Thursday. Fairways and greens will probably stay soft throughout the week.  In terms of tee times, I think Thursday morning and Friday afternoon have the biggest advantage. • We have a very difficult but mostly showy course this week. Lets see what they got. This course offers so many chances to get into trouble it is really a mental minefield. I am excited to see who can handle it and who cant. Last year we got a foreshadowing of JJ and Rory, I am excited for this year Who do people have winning? what will the winning score be? I am thinking 12 or 13 under
