At what point is the tour going to take some sort of action regarding the use of cell phones/cameras with the gallery? As Spieth was in his backswing on 18 with a chance to win his third major of year and make history, some jobber couldn't help but to get out his camera to get an action shot. Most likely so he could post it on Facebook or Twitter to brag to his buddies that he was there and got a picture of the shot. That was an egregious example but it seems like every shot these guys try to hit there are multiple people with little respect for the players and tournament and are more concerned with their personal desire for a cool picture for their social media bragging rights. Since clearly so many peoe simply can't help themselves, how long will it be before phones and cameras are outright banned? I'd be all for it since we clearly have passed the point that common decency is enough. Especially when you have guys like Spieth who deal with this every shot, which slows down the pace, and are later being put on the clock for salt in the wound. Thoughts?

Phones and cameras have already been banned. It just (mostly) lead to people who wanted to have their phones with them being sneaky.

[/quote] Well if they start removing patrons from the course as soon as they pull out a phone, it would solve the problem. A rule is only as effective as its enforcement and recourse.

From TheOpen:

Mobile Device & Camera Policy

A strict policy will be in place to ensure play is not disrupted in any way.

  • All devices must be in SILENT mode at all times
  • Calls must be placed or received in approved designated areas, referred to as "Mobile Device Zones"
  • No audio or video capture is permitted at any time
  • No still photography is permitted on Championship Days
  • Data use (e.g. texting, e-mail, website access, etc) is permitted throughout the golf course. Volume must be muted at all times

Spectators who breach any provision of this policy will be subject to the terms and conditions of ticket sales.

Not everyone is a idiot with a cell phone or camera. And as mentioned above if they'd enforce the rules that were put into place we wouldn't have these situations. It's sad that everyone would get punished for the foolishness of a few. Throw those who don't abide by the rule out and there wouldn't be a issue imho.

They did such a great job enforcing it....Even a ranger breaking the rules..

I heard the camera also but these guys just have to make these shots even with the noise.

They should go out and play at an air force base golf course.  Definitely gets your mind into not listening to noises, otherwise you would almost never hit your ball.

    • Day 120 - Played 18; much better than yesterday. Miss right now is off the heel of the club, so I need to sort that out.
    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
