I have Driver, don't play it yet. A 3w that I hit 5/6 fwy on the front nine today. Not so good on the back. And a hybrid. Voted 2, as I didn't know hybrids were considered woods. So 3, I guess.

Was curious about a 5 wood until I got a 3h to fill the gap between my 3w and 3i lofts. Would not trade it for anything. God almighty hybrids are great clubs!

Hybrids really aren't woods.  As the name implies, they are the offspring of a marriage between an iron and a FW wood, but not quite either one.

I carry a driver, 4W and 7W. Four years ago, these two fairway woods replaced my 3W and 5W/trouble club equivalents.

I'm one of those people that Golf Digest talked about who can hit a 4W farther than a 3W. And, the 7W gets the ball out of medium rough much better than a hybrid.

I also carry a 4H, which replaced my 4i. And, I own a 3H which I swap out for the 7W from fall to early spring, when the winds are stronger and the rough much lighter.

Also... I stumbled across a set of Callaway Hawkeye fairway woods - 3, 5, 7, 9 - in decent shape and regripped in midsize New Decade MultiCompounds. I got them for $40 each. Then, a month later at another shop, I scored a Callaway Hawkeye Deuce - a 2-wood - for only $20. Surprise... :-O the Deuce has been reincarnated in the burst of mini-drivers by TM and copycats.

The Hawkeyes will be good comparison clubs for what's coming out today.

Now, back to main topic...

Hybrid or high-lofted FW? It depends in part on how you come into the ball, which type you hit best.

This is why my 3W has left my bag.  I hit my new TM AeroBurner 5W farther and straighter than I do my Mizuno 3W.  The 5W is only 3 degrees weaker than the 3W (18° to 15°).

Driver and 3 wood. My 3 and 4 hybrids can handle any other distances I need and can be hit out of bad lies.
