Just to show how golf is witchcraft, Troy Merritt follows that 82 with a 75, then steadies himself with an even par 70.  17 over, DFL.  Last week he rolled in every putt he looked at.  He's probably wishing there was a cut this week as bad as he's going.  Still, he's into the PGA and Masters etc, plus a giant paycheck for winning.

I cannot remember an event where Jordan had no shot to win on Sunday, although I suspect he'll work his way into the top 10 or even top 5 by end of day.

Looks like it was probably the Byeon Nelson at the end of May. He finished T30, 11 strokes back. The 4 tourneys he's played since we're T3, 1,1,T4 ;)

I do remember that now, I went to the Sat round and he played his way out of it. He has had a dominant season, hopefully he's back in the saddle next week.

He's had a couple, at least, missed cuts this year. I never bet against Jordan but I don't think he'll work his way back today. He doesn't really have this course figured out or he's rusty.

Didn't he miss the cut at this years Players Championship?

Man Gmac needs to hit the treadmill or lay off the Guiness. Maybe get the Darren Clarke secret diet. He's gained quite a few LB's

I couldn't even look at Shane Lowry and his jiggly chest without thinking that he desperately needs a bra! It's just so shocking to see golfers who look like that these days when 90 plus percent of them are so fit.

Jordan wasn't really in contention at the Memorial either but had a big final day and that carried his momentum into the U.S. Open. If he has a good day today, I expect him to take that momentum and confidence to Whistling Straits. He won't win today, but it means a lot for next week.

Lord, these announcers are ridiculous. Wtf does mental energy even mean?? Like Spieth is the best player in the game right now; you don't need to make up some new age mystic bullshit to puff him up.

Yet you could only dream of having the game that these jiggly chested players you speak of have. " Mickleson, Reed " It must suck being as fit as you are and not be able to take a full swing because of back problems.

Yes, because my fitness and my golf game is really relevant when discussing professional golfers/athletes. But I realize that in this day of Donald Trump, personally attacking someone you disagree with rather than dealing with the issue(s) at hand is considered appropriate.

Perhaps I should be grateful I don't have Golf Channel. Jordan doesn't need "puffing up" but I'm guessing the announcers do. But nothing beats the absurdity of Tom Weiskopf at the US Open repeating -- at least 100 times during the coverage -- that "par is just a number." I swear I wanted to throw something at the television.

I'm guessing the black ribbon is for Louise Suggs? Haven't heard it referred to, can anyone confirm?

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
