I know that the size of golf courses is already an issue with maintenance and lack of land but if some courses had enough room would you be interested in playing extra holes that were par 6s and 7s 650 yard par 6 and 700 yard par 7. I think it would be fun as extra holes.

Try playing from 8000 yard tees. . .

Sorry, no interest at all. All that would do is drive up the cost to maintain the course which would subsequently drive up the cost of the round.

No, I wouldn't be interested in that even if a par 6 or 7 was part of a regulation (number of holes) course.

I think going past a normal par 5 distance to holes where you'd hit a drive and two or three more simply long shots, would make for a kind of boring hole.  There wouldn't seem to be much strategy until you got to the approach shot.

Just as an aside, MidSouth Club in Pinehurst does have a 19th (golf) hole.  Its a moderately short par-3 ending up on a small portion of the practice green.  They use it for playoffs in tournaments.

I think it would be cool if it was like a dog leg left then dog leg right with some interesting forced carry's or layups.

While were at it lets add Par 2's that start on the green to make up for the new Par 6's... Just kidding :-P par 3-5 is good for me

I've played a couple course with Par 6's and I thought they were just there for a gimmicky way to get people to talk about their course. One that I remember he most was in Madison Maine. I wasn't a fan of the Par 6's so I'm sure I wouldn't want to play a par 7 unless I'm playing a cross country tournament. I've seen a 19th tee that are used in tournaments to hit to the practice green as well. I believe Old Hickory in Woodbridge VA has one. I've seen other courses as well with them.

Very cool. Did you two putt??

According to PGA data, a 100ft putt has an expected hole-out value of 2.4 or so. You'll three putt 40% of the time from 100ft, so I imagine 180ft is well over half the time!

From 60yards in the fairway, the expected hole-out value is 2.7. Maybe you'd be better off using a wedge from that far since that's a more familiar stroke. I don't suppose you wanna be tearing up the hallowed grounds of Scotland though :-P

I'm aware of some par 6 holes as part of the regular course.

In St. Louis, the old Forest Park layout had No. 9, a 630-yd. par 6 that ran south along Skinker Blvd. It played as a Par 6 until the 1960s, when the park trimmed it back to 585 yds. and made it a Par 5.

Several years ago, the Forest Park golf layout was completely redone. The trace of the old No. 9 now contains a par 4 and a par 3.

Also, Sun Valley GC in Elsberry, MO. had a 720-yd. par 6 for awhile. The revised scorecard, however, shows it has been reduced to a Par 5.

If courses have an extra hole, it likely would be a short one as DaveP mentioned at MidSouth Club in Pinehurst. I have heard of other courses which had an actual 19th hole by the beverage 19th hole for resolving tied bets.

Focus, connect and follow through!
