This is my second summer playing. Two goals: getting my hcp in the 20s and breaking 100. I was struggling from May to July, but things are finally coming together. Today I shot a 52 on 9 and dropped my hcp to 35 (with terrible short game), so it's starting to look like I have a chance of reaching my goals!

I would just like to find a way to enjoy golf again. Seems like all I am doing is chasing scores and a handicap. If something happens on the course that becomes a distraction I'd rather not be there. Last night I walked off after 12 holes because I couldn't handle waiting behind all the slow pokes.
Are you talking about something like the SCGA scratch match play qualifiers?

Something like that, yeah. U.S. Open is 1.4 IIRC, U.S. Am is 2.4, state am might be 3.4 and SoCal am might be 4.4. Then there are also the same associations' mid ams. Each of those is slightly easier to qualify to register. I'd probably start with the SoCal mid am and gradually work up as I was able to.
Cool, then I might see you some mornings at my course where they hold many qualifiers. :-)

This was going to be my year, but injuries sidelined me on everything. I broke into the 80s early in May, then the shoulder injuries sidelined me for two months. I didn't enter my club championship since I'm playing 8 strokes over my HC right now, and had to go back and work on some very fundamental stuff with my pro, and I think we got it straightened out Thursday.

Right now I'm just glad to be able to play again.

Decide which set of irons to use!

Last summer I got my X20 Tours reshafted with "R" NS Pro 8950 shafts, about 17 grams and a half flex lighter than the stock PX 5.0 shafts. initial good results.

About this time, I learn that TST has picked me to test out the TM SLDR irons, with C-Taper 90 shafts (similar to KBS Tour 90 in dynamics). I play them, get fairly good results, and write the positive review.

Then, on a whim, I put my X20 Tours back in the bag, have a good day with the irons and sink my first-ever hole in one with the 6i. Emotional edge back to X20s. More reinforcement when I surprising "carry the team" in an August scramble.

So, I'm considering whether to reload the SLDRS, when I get picked in May for a custom fitting with the Nike Tour Van. I get the specs for the Nike Vapor Speed w/ C-Taper Lite "R" shafts, and have been playing them since early July. The 7 iron on up are good, and the PW and AW are super. But, I spray the 4i through 6i all over the place. Plus, the Speeds don't carry as far, despite having shafts 3/4" longer than the other two. This doesn't match the ball flight from fitting day. (I must say, the fitter was very thorough - not sure what current problem is).

So its decision time. In the next few days I will rent some launch monitor time, and test out the 5i and 8i from all three sets and see which one wins out.  I may arrange it as a fitting with the local pro to get help seeing what's there.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Mine has been winning our club championship. Two years ago I played my way out of it due to nerves, last year I lost in a 6 hole playoff and we have ours this year going right now. After day one I'm 5 shots in the lead so just looking to go out and have some fun tomorrow and bring home my major :)

My major will be the TST Erie-Pittsburgh-Ohio outing in September. The goal is to not embarrass myself entirely.

Slow play is a huge distraction for me as well. Nothing like playing the front nine well and, in a groove in 1.5hr. Only to have the back nine take 2.5hr  while having to wait Every hole. Hard to enjoy watching the group in front of you hit every shot for 9 holes. I set out to play 18 holes every time I play. Quite often now it just turns into 9, because I can't enjoy myself having to wait for 18 holes.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
