Quote:

John Daly collapsed and was taken to a hospital for tests Saturday, according to a report on Yahoo Sports .

The report said Daly, who collapsed on the 18th tee while playing in an event at Deerfield Golf Club in Canton, Miss., was taken to Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Miss.

Zack Hamm, an emergency room technician at Baptist Medical Center, confirmed to Yahoo Sports on Saturday night that Daly was there and being evaluated. He said there was no further update on Daly's condition.

The Associated Press reported that a friend of Daly's, Billy Allen, who was with Daly at the hospital, said the two-time major champion's vital signs were good but doctors were checking on possible injuries to his ribs and fingers.

Deerfield club pro Leigh Brannan, who was at the tournament, said Daly was having trouble with the heat and had some difficulty breathing before being taken to the hospital, the AP reported. Temperatures were near 90 degrees in the Jackson area.

"He was struggling pretty badly right before he collapsed," Brannan said. "But we're all hoping it's nothing serious and that he was just a little dehydrated. He was even telling [Allen] he still wants to play [Sunday]."

UPDATE: Local sources say Daly’s condition is heat related. He is expected to be at the course tomorrow.

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke can be serious. I hope he recovers soon.

They are now saying he suffered a collapsed lung.

Glad to hear he's okay.  I heard this driving to the course early Sunday morning when not a lot of info was known and feared that he would die.  He's the type of guy when you take into account his past (alcohol/etc.) where I would not be surprised to hear that sort of thing.

How is the injury to a finger related to ribs/collapsed lung though?

Daly is crazy, heard he was on the course today smoking cigarettes with his good lung.  Guy seems to have a death wish or just doesn't care.

Wouldn't be surprised if he did that when he fell. I understand he hit is rubs, possible fracture? Don't know.

This I know, the guy has a lot of high risk factors for dying early - being obese/poor diet, smoking, drinking.

I had a guy in my foursome about Daly's age die of a heart attack. He was smoking on every hole, and the humidity was pretty tough. We were walking and he needed to stop on about the 10th hole to sit in the shade and all of a sudden went in the full blown heart attack losing consciousness and dying right there despite CPR and a late arriving ambulance crew.

Daly needs to take this as a warning sign to get himself into better shape even if it was related to dehydration.  But knowing him, he'll continue on with his current lifestyle and all the risk factors.....
