What?? You can't get off that easily. Example: I sent this thread to someone I know. They told me "boy that @Duff McGee guy is a real arrogant prick. I wouldn't debate with that level of stupidity anymore." Before anyone gets upset, these are not my words. Sorry, I don't think that flies. If you feel a certain way, and want to say it, own it......

Ok, fair enough I guess. Hey did you read all that material that proves the Quran is the one true holy book of god? They have "tons of predictions that have come true" as was stated above. Edit: also, with the millions of miracles god has apparently done throughout the millennia, I wonder why even one of those has not been verified. For some strange reason it always involves people claiming things happened. God must have created us to try to hide from us. That makes some sense. Oh but he did give us one piece of evidence: a book written in the Bronze Age where people didn't know what the sun was and has been proven false at just about every turn. I mean, who cares if the people that actually wrote the bible had never actually met Jesus and the one book that the others copied (Mark) was written at least 4 decades after Christ's apparent death and never originally had the resurrection in his gospel. Sounds reasonable.

You are completely missing the point here. The people you listed did not commit those crimes in the "name of atheism". PleSe get that through your brainwashed skull. Hitler was an artist but it doesn't mean you can say artists are horrific evil people. Do you understand that? Lenin, Stalin, Mao didn't have any care that their victims were religious they killed anyone they choose for other ridiculous reasons but not out of "atheism". However, Islam, and many others in the past and present, tortue and execute SOLEY BASED ON A RELIGIOUS BASIS. Do you understand that? Atheist aren't spread all over TV begging for money from blind and foolish people. Atheist aren't telling you they can cure your illnesses if you come to their church and donate. You'd love to debate? Why don't you research the atrocities that have been done and are being done by religious fanatics FOR THE PURPOSE OF A RELIGIOUS IDEOLOGY, compared to those FOR THE PURPOSE OF ATHEISM, not just picking out horrible people from years ago who happen to have been atheist as well. Why can't you understand the difference? You could list many things those horrible leaders had in common and make a childish connection that that is why they did what they did. Gary Ridgeway, Jeffery Dalmer, Ted Bundy, John W. Gacy all serial killers .....and hey! They all went to church and believed in God. So what does that say? NOTHING. Why? Because they didn't murder people out of a religious ideology. They murdered out of a sociopathic disorder. You're losing ground quickly.....

Wrong

Stalin established state atheism, and then went about torturing and killing those who would not convert to state atheism and the atheist propaganda. Therefore when someone tells you the atrocities committed by Stalin were not done in the name of atheism you can be absolutely sure that that person is either ignorant or being dishonest.

Serious question here: have you ever taken a logic course in school? The reason I ask is that, if you have, you see why it doesn't matter that atheists have done bad things, right? You realize that just because there have been bad atheists that it actually 0% helps any God claim, right? Does an evil atheist existing help prove that there is a unicorn God floating in outer space controlling our every move?

Evolution doesnt need a beginning, it just is.

Also vent research is a possibility on origin of life with the mixture of extremely high temperatures in water mixed with rock at the bottom the ocean. As vents first arrive diatoms and other single celled organisms will form on the inside of the vent. They can take the energy from sulfides and convert it to organic energy that surrounding ecosystems can use. How is this relevant? Bc it doesnt need sunlight to exist. Its a possible explanation, but only that so far.

To say evolution "just is" is nothing more that meaningless tautology. If evolution doesn't have a beginning, then evolution is a tree without a trunk. You can't have evolution unless you can trace the ancestry of every living thing back to the first living replicating cell from which all other life forms then arose. And you cannot get the first living cell from non-living matter. Life only comes from pre-existing life. Abiogenesis has never been observed. On the other hand, biogenesis is an observable science

The atheist says; "there is no God" and must therefore necessarily believe that all living things originally created themselves from nothing. Something coming from nothing has never been observed and is therefore unscientific.

My view says an uncreated, eternally existing, all-powerful being caused everything to come into existence.

It takes a whole lot more faith to believe the former over the latter view.

I just don't have enough faith to be an atheist

I am trying to have a dialogue, but you refuse to engage.

Again - why are you so offended that people ask for extraordinary evidence to support extraordinary claims?

Pleas - I am more than happy to be convinced.

Do you not think it strange that a "belief" held by millions can not be justified by ANY of them?

Sort of like waiting for an atheist to produce evidence how life originally arose from non-living matter even though science with all their sophisticated equipment haven't been able to accomplish what they believe came about by some freak unrepeatable accident. But hey, if you have no evidence you just wave your magic wand and say, millions and billions of years ago ... when you hear that then hang on because you are about to be told a fairy tale.

Again, this is an ignorant statement. Why are you making statements that are completely void of fact like this? Atheism is the lack of a belief in a god. Atheism doesn't make the claim "there is no God." It is the lack of a belief in a god. You are making a positive claim: "there is a god." All we are asking for is evidence. One little piece. Yet you have given nothing.

Wow. You're more than a match for me. Yes - it's pretty embarrassing how we have to rely on the likes of Einstein and Stephen Hawking to explain in laymen's terms what would otherwise take months to understand, given the vast amount of literature that exists to explain how it happened. Makes much more sense to believe in talking snakes, virgin mothers and dead men walking. That is perfectly logical and repeatable, isn't it?

Still waiting, by the way. Just one thing that would support your stance. Not two, just one will do.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

@Duff McGee Your last couple of posts are total cop-outs. I'm a "non-believer" too, although I do believe in the broader aspects of most religions which could and should be boiled down to "thou shalt not be an arsehole". I'm staying out of this debate simply because, like you, I'm not about to dedicate a large chunk of my time reading and refuting claims such as the ones posted by @bunkerputt . I do, however respect my Christian amigos on this site and believe they respect my heathen self as well. And seeing as I have no intention of investing the time to properly debate this I am opting not to at all, out of respect. The way I see it, if I'm going to tell them that their religion (whatever it may be) is poppy-cock, I owe them the courtesy of more than, "I'm not going to take the time to rebut all the crap you just posted, but I am going to unilaterally declare it to be all bunk." That's a cop-out. Either have the debate or don't, but to do it half assed is no better than simple name calling.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
