Putter Dilemma

Guys i need your advice. I currently use a Yes! Stephanie Belly putter and its the nicest putter ive ever used.

Now, i dont play in comps but just play for fun but im stuck with what to do.

Money is tight so the a new or new to me (used) putter of any top brand is off limits so do i go back to my old Ram putter or get a Pro shop to modify.

Apparently, Yes! modified their remaining stock of 43" in to 38" Counterbalanced so may be an option?

Or as im not playing in comps etc. should i just be a rebel and continue to use it as intended?

your advise, as always, is much appreciated.

If you're not playing in a league, tournament, or money games... Then keep using it if you want to. It's not going to hurt anybody else. One thing to consider though, if you want to make sure your putter is still OK for competition... If you really like the head, go to a pro shop and see what the options are to re-shaft it.

Is it feasible to just not anchor it? The putter is legal, the anchoring isn't. Can you just try to use it off the body? Or putt like Kuchar?

+1 I used the claw grip and then converted to the Kuchar method of putting. I have the exact model Kuchar uses and I actually putt well now with the arm lock putter.

If your not playing in tourneys id keep it. For recreational golfers, its supposed to be fun. If your belly putter enhances your enjoyment of the game then keep using it!! And if people give u flack, just tell em pros used them once upon a time. For the record, im against the long putters on tour BUT if your not competing professionally im of the FIRM belief that u should do whatever makes YOU happy. Just my .02. And as far as a counter balance putter goes, theyre legal so that might be an option if its something u enjoy but imho those things should be banned for everyone. I tried a belly putter and it wasnt as ez as i thought it would be. Tried a counter balance and made 33 in a row from various distances. NOBODY should make 33 in a row period. Lol...golf is supposed to be harder than that.

Your arm is still part of your body and isnt the whole point of the ban to prevent players from anchorring?

Anchoring is just to a "stationary" part of the body (belly, chest, chin). From what i understand, as the forearm is still moving as part of the swing its ok. Bernard Langer gripped a similar way with his Kiawah Grip back in the day

Oh. Ok. Thanks for clearing that up. I was unaware of the stationary part. Seems like a technique that would sink a lot of putts.

For me to sink a lot of putts i would need a putter head the size of a small house, laser sights and maybe some sort of homing golf ball :-P

Blackhawk putters do a putter for pro shops to help with putter fitting that has a button on the handle and actually has a laser in the head so they can see where you are aiming. Apparently its frowned upon to use them to play with......damn rule makers ;-)

I just bought a counter balance putter with 50 grams on the end of the grip, 50 grams on the head and 38 inches in length and I love it.  If you check Ebay, you can find counter balance putter for a reasonalbe price.

Russ, you use a putter called Stephanie?  Does it have a pretty pink grip?  Time for a new putter, belly or no. :-)

      Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.

      As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
