I often play alone in the late evening. It's my way of getting some practice in. Like many have said i will play and repeat some shots if nobody is behind me *usually i seem to always be the last one out*. Lets me see what my shot is doing in the real world and calculate my distances on the course. Something hard for me to do at a range.

I like the travelling trophy idea. Gonna work on something like that. I was wondering if anybody was gonna catch that 69 + 21 doesnt equal 100 haha. But when i started i was like you thinking man thats so weird to be playing alone with strangers and what not but I did it once and now i get to play golf more than ever and you meet new interesting people all the time. If I am by myself I will keep track of my score and play 2 balls. nxt tour vs tour s and see if there is actually any difference.

I play by myself out of nessary. I travel on business and many times I stop at courses and there are very few playing. I enjoy it except for one factor. I have bad eyes and do not always know where my ball went. In the last 11 years have played over 700 different coursesin 38 states and 20 countries.

All the time.  It is fun to play with new people.  Don't worry about it.  I usually call the course and ask where they could fit in a single.

Yep frequently, when golfing friends' schedules don't mesh.  You'll either play as a single (which is fun) or get added to a group (which is still fun).

One weekday morning, I played on a local 9 hole course. I did not see a single person other than the starter. I am thinking of starting off on the course at 5:30am to get a round in before work, but they don't always have starters that early. I doubt I will find anyone willing to play that early in the morning.

I'm not sure it's even daylight here at 5:30. Way too early for me.

With no hesitation. If I can't find anyone that is free and available, I wake up at 4:30 AM and put on a fresh pot of coffee. Then I clean up my clubs and shoes and have a few smokes while doing that. I'll try to find someone one last time via text and if I don't hear back, I'm going solo and that is fine with me.

I love meeting new people anyway, so I've met a lot of people through golfing as a solo that I would never have met if I were already paired up. Some of these guys are still people I play with regularly today, so it was definitely an added benefit.

Don't be nervous, shy, scared, or hesitant to play alone. You really learn a lot about your game when you have no distractions around you. Also, 90% of the people you see out there have played alone many times and even do so by choice and do so frequently.

EDIT: An added benefit to playing solo is that you will often have the opportunity to play two balls which means more strokes and more practice. Score ball A while ball B is designated to something you are working on in your game.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
