What'd You Shoot Today?

Shot a 90, with a 47 on the front and a 43 on the back. I struck the ball better than I scored, but holed out a bunker shot from about 15 yards for a birdie on a par 5.

Was he alright?

Yeah, I got him on the outside of the upper arm. He was pretty cool about it when I drove up and asked if he'd seen a ball come up through here, he said "Yeah, got me in the arm, right here" showing me a scuff mark on his arm that looked pretty fresh. The ball was about 20 yards further up, on the edge of the fairway--I guess it bounced up there. He was pretty cool about it, since the four of us (the guy, his friend, my buddy, and I) had been shooting the shit on and off all day waiting on a slow foursome.

I later went on to par that hole.

Shot a 96 (Par 72, 71.6, 130)...was plugging along nicely when I lost concentration at the end. Finished with double, double, triple, and quad - four straight three puts

The positive was that I had some good tee shots, approaches, chips, and putts before Hole # 15

Shot the most ugly 84 in my life. Had a triple on the 2nd hole....about 3 double's...a couple of bogey's, rest were par's and two birdies. Ugly driving, lucky recovers. A few lucky chips that went almost in...putting was terrible. I was so shocked to find out I didn't shoot in the 90's. Still trying to forget that round!

40 on 9 holes today at Fox Run (71/137). Best I've shot all year. I still struggled with pushed and pulled shots, but they were nowhere near as severe as they used to be. My putting improved drastically (14 putts), and I made several up's and down's, and a sand save.

By and large, I got all my shit together for the first time this year.

Shot a 43 WOW today on 9 holes. The best part is I birdied a par 5 that has been my nemises lately. Par is 35 so that put me 1 under bogey golf, I will take that anyday.

i shot a 77 (37/40) at our local country club (71.4? rating)... it was pretty sweet being as i got in free because i work at another golf course. It was rather ironic because i played in a 2 mans captains choice last monday and shot an 80, and now by myself i shot 3 strokes better.

97 at The Willows. (46+51). Just couldn't get my shit together off the tee. I didn't hit any balls out of bounds, but I was skulling, topping, skyballing, and duck-hooking my way into bad lie after bad lie. On the front 9, I had a really hot lob wedge and putter which bailed me out of trouble numerous times, but my putting fell apart on the back 9, with 24 putts on just the last 9, including a really ugly four-putt on a par 3 which led to a double.

Just couldn't get my shit together today.

97 today. I hit 8/14 fairways and the missed fairways were close. My driver was by far my best club in the bag. The irons were absolutely awful today, and turned what should have been a good day into a frustrating one. I bogeyed 12 holes with a couple of ugly scores thrown in, and only one par.

Cranked out a really ugly 53 on 9 holes this morning. I blame an exceptionally early tee time (7 in the morning) and I'm not a normally functioning human until at least noon, typically.

That aside, my game is coming apart at the seams--all my drives were wild duck hooks, with no explanation, I was inexplicably pushing about half of my iron shots again, again, no explanation...I only seem to draw the ball when I fire straight at the pin, leaving me short and to the left, if I aim to the right, it flies straight. My putting was a standing joke, I fourputted twice, and ended with 24 putts.

It was worse than not getting my shit together, my game truly fell apart. I think I'm going to take a few days off before hitting the range and trying to figure out this mess.

If this is all out of the blue, don't even try to figure it out. Chalk it up to a horrible day and don't over think it. Unless these are things that have been building up for a while, it is more likely that you just sucked today. Don't take that the wrong way. We all do it. You may do more harm than good if you over analyze and try to rebuild everything. Take a day off and just forget about it.

Watch out for flying elbows!! Once the drive goes, the rest usually follows close behind for me.

I shot a 74 at a local course (par 72, 6987 yards) Had two roll by the hole for the almost hole in one's.. Mike

79. Was playing well on the front until two late bogeys at 8 and 9 nabbed me, then didn't play super hot on the back nine.

Probably not coincidentally, I ran into three foursomes on the 8th tee after playing at my own pace the first seven holes. Good golly I hate waiting.

Beautiful day here in Saratoga! Shot 78 39,39 (71.2/125)

For the first time this year I really struggled with my driver and missed a few more greens than normal due to poor driving. But what I'm really excited about is my chipping, pitching and putting really came up big today. I've put a lot of hard work into it this year and today it's what kept me in the 70's!

Last year this round would have resulted in a 82 or 83. I'm pretty happy to go out there and hit the ball about as bad as I can hit it from tee to green and still shoot a decent score!

shot a 79 last night. 39-40. course is par 37-35. I was sitting at two over with four holes to go and then did my usual trick and started getting ahead of myself. thinking about what I had to do on the last few holes etc.The last four holes were taken care of with 3 bogies and 1 double. Shot a +8 39 in my league last night. It was a first palce matchup. We wre tied going in and I was giving him 3 shots. I was horrible starting double-double to his bogey-bogey. 5 Down through two I made up all 5 on the next two with two pars to his double and a triple. He bridied 5 to my par but I took the lead on 6 with a bogey to his double. I made par on 7 to his double and then managed an ugly double to his bogey on 8. We came to the last hole and I had a two shot Net lead. I hit a terrible tee shot while he was in the fairway. My second ended up in the right rough behind a small tree. I had to hit it short of the green and try to pitch it close to a pin at the back of a two tiered green. I put it about 8 feet past and a few feet left. He had 10 feet for par. If I made my bogey putt I could not lose. He missed his par and I made my bogey. My wife won as well so we are undefeated and alone in first place.

    • It’s going to change but your basic setup feel should be about the same. Your body kind of adjusts to length and lie angle of the club. You’ll want to pay attention more to ball position as you change clubs more than how bent over you are. I understood what you meant from what your wrote.
    • Oh I probably was thinking the wrong thing or the wrong way when I typed the golf swing was more of a body swing (in my mind).  The in my mind part probably should have said in my opinion or based on what I have read.  Just meant the body needs to be involved more than the hands and swinging the arms while the core remains still.
    • The answer to this question is a very small change in impact can cause a BIG impact in direction. This is with the driver, but its similar with the irons... How much does an open or closed clubface affect your drives? | RoboTest Want to hit more fairways? The latest edition of GOLF's RoboTest highlights the importance of driver face angle. For a driver, 1 degree of clubface open or shut causes 10 yards of left or right. When you think the rate of closure for a golf club, how fast the club face goes from open (top of the golf swing) to square (at impact), 1 degree is a small quantity.  This means, when you are looking at video of your swing, you can see the exact same swing, but present the clubface in two widely separate positions. More so if you have swing faults. You can make the same backswing, but not get your weight forward well and hit a fat shot. You then react to this, try not to fat it so you thin it. Maybe the timing is off on the extension part of the downswing and you thin it slightly. Also, certain swing movements cause the wrists to flip at impact. The intent is still to hit the ball with the club. So your hands are going to adjust to find the ball. The more they have to adjust, the more difficult it is to repeat. Nope, it is way less mental than physical. If we could all think our way to a better swing, we would all be PGA tour players.  #GOLF IS HARD!  Beginners have repeatable swings, just bad repeatable swing. We all just need to make repeatable better swings.  The golf swing is a battle of making movements that allow the club to do good things. You results are from a bad swing that has a wider range of outcomes. Your outcomes are probably the following. Way more thins, fats, skulls than most. You hardly see PGA Tour players fat, skull or thin a shot.  The first principle of golf is FEEL IS NOT REAL. Meaning, we can feel things in the golf swing, yet it produces results or shows on video as something else.  You just set up to the ball. The club has a different length, so you need to adjust. For most your arms extend more out as you have a longer club. You also bend over less for longer clubs. It is just something you get used to. If you make a fist and stick your thumb out. You want that width from the butt end of the club and your belt buckle. Now, if you taller or shorter than most, then you may need to adjust the length of your clubs.
    • At address? I think so. Downswing and through? IDK. I doubt if a whole lot of golfers, if any at all, deliberately think "I have a 9-iron so I need to bend half an inch more through the downswing compared to my 8 iron".
