http://Golf Channel - News Videos: 'Oh my goodness': Poulter shanks shot http://www.golfchannel.com/media/poulter-shanks-shot-5th-hole-british-masters/

My goodness what a beauty. Golf is hard. Is every step forward in this game inevitably riddled with 2 steps back? Ian Poultier had all 5 keys in his swing and hit a wonderful 90* shank from his target line. What went wrong? So when I see an accomplished professional hit this shot and look bewildered I wonder, do I even have a chance at this game?

Not as good as this one from the Honda. Curious that Miller points out how it appears Poulter is addressing the ball off the toe of the club. Looked at some other vids on youtube and he seems to do it quite often. Must've had some serious shanking issues and developed it as a compensation.

Well that makes sense. I was perplexed because in the "Simple slow specific success" thread you stated "One of the best swings I made resulted in a cold shank." Seems odd you would feel your swing was so good yet you didn't even have all 5 keys in place. Explain please.

I can't answer your specific question but obviously we see "great" swing motions by pros result in shanks and other amateurish misses from time to time. There are no bio mechanical guarantees, no fundamentals that can completely prevent terrible shots. Every once in a while, the brain - body machine miscalculates by an inch or two and something like this happens,  even when you are that good. In the end, it's still a ball and stick game and sometimes we miss.
