Winter Golf Apparel

Just a little question for those of you in the regions who have cold winters...

What do you wear? Obviously I could just bundle up in 100 layers, but I don't want to restrict movement too badly.

I wear as a first layer a technical longsleve shirt and long tights.
The second layer is a fleece shirt and my outer layer is a windstopper softshell.
By that I stay movable and warm.

Winter gloves
Pants.(what i do is put on a pair of flannel pants under my regualar pants)
Warm socks
Water proof shoes

Long-sleve thermal shirt

From there it depends on how cold it is. But I'll wear a normal golf shirt and possibly a wool sweater or another thermal layer, a sweatshirt, and if it's really cold a short sleeve wind shirt. And rain pants. Yes, it looks a bit odd, but I did play three rounds last January.

But just adding the aforementioned base makes a big difference, especially the hat and bottoms, because I can't feel them in my swing.

Up here in Canada we call your 'knit hats' a toque (French-Canadian word pronounced tuke, rhymes with fluke). It is amazing how much warmer you feel wearing one. I was playing on a clear day last winter with wind, had my layers on, and was cold. Remembered I had my toque in the bag, put it on and was comfortable for the rest of the round. Ping makes a good polar fleece one.

Saturday I played here in North Ohio. It was about 45-50 degrees. I had an Adidas mock neck on, an Ashworth sweater, an Adidas fleece pullover and a Ping stocking cap on. Keeping your head warm is the key.

Didn't play too bad either.

Played Saturday in Shorts and a Short sleeve golf shirt. Of course it was 75 degrees.

When it does cool down here and gets into the 50's I wear under armour long sleeve cold weather mock turtlenecks under a golf shirt. If I am still cold I wear a short sleeve golf pullover over that. If it gets below 45 degrees I just don't play and wait for a better day.

polo shirt - have to wear collar
sleeveless jumper - layer for warmth & doesnt restrict

then either

jumper and rain jacket

or

fleece - windstopper

any bit of nip in the ear and the wet leggings come on. i wear them all winter in Ireland - it's freezing!

warm hat and socks of course, and winter gloves.

It does not get to cold down in Houston but when it does i go for the Under armor or nike extreme cold gear. If you are up north you can wear two of them. one thing if you do wear this you must be moving. This material traps body heat so you must generate heat.

If you are going to golf in cold temperatures under armour cold gear tops and bottoms are a great investment along with a goretex jacket and a warm hat.

No matter what the brand, those pullovers/jackets with the removable, zippered long sleeves are pretty much a must.
