Most Frequent Reason You Cut a Round Short?

72 members have voted

  1. 1. Other than severe weather (lightning, tornado) or the sun has been down long enough so one can not see the ball, what is the one most common reason you cut a round short?

I ran out of golf balls on the back nine, didn't see the point in paying club house price for more when I was having a bad day so I just walked to the car. Other than that I never quit a round early.

Slow play. 3 1/2 hours for 9 is not a round I want to finish and I've walked off several times due to that. I'd play 18 in rain before I play 18 in 7 hours.

I've played 1,000s of rounds over the past 25 years and 99.9% of the time I quit without finishing is because of slow play.  I've cut rounds short more times than I count due to slow play!!

I have a membership with unlimited play privileges so it's not like I fork out $50 every time I put a peg in the ground.  I play several times a week when the days are long.   I play early on the weekends so the pace of play is never an issue, but I also play a few times a week in the evenings and you never know what you're going to get!! (with regard to pace of play)  If the course is "Stacked up" in a bad way on a random weekday/weekend evening.......I get the hell out of there!!  LOL  If I find a gap, I'll skip to a different part of the course.   Not playing is the last resort.......

Any of a variety of reasons, but the main thing (for me) is, I only quit early if I'm playing alone. For ex, last week I played 9, hit my tee ball on 10 then decided okay, that's enough. Wasn't playing badly or anything, just had enough.

But if I'm playing with others, I hang in there as long as they do. Bad form to cut out on a group early.

The only time I've stopped was playing 9 walking single last 2 hours of play and I had played a little too much the days before and was very tired and hitting the ball horribly. My focus was completely gone, my form and everything was just garbage and I couldn't bring it back even though I knew what I was doing. This is usually because my legs start to get a little wobbly and they drop during my downswing from fatigue and I hit it fat.

There was one time I almost walked off was because I was being a 2-some couple of college kids who were NOT very good but insisted on playing like they were in the pros. They were playing at about a 3 hour pace for 9 holes (with cart) and they refused to let me walk through (at a 1.5 hour pace max... walking). The only reason I didn't walk off was because the front 9 doesn't swing back to the clubhouse area except for #3 where I caught up to them on #4. Also, I didn't have much going on that day so I decided to just chill and enjoy being outside in the beautiful weather.

Slow play. When you start the day with two open holes for your foursome and you get to 12 and there is 2 foursomes waiting on the tee off, it's time to jump to the bar.

This ^^

    • I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.
    • 46 (9 over) Short game and putts were awful!
    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
