I am a new golfer of only 3 years and roughly 20 -30 games played. I'm also new to this thread.

The problem that I have been dealing with since day one, is my swing is only a 3/4 full swing. My distance on each shot is noticeably shorter than others who use the same club. When I do try to perform a full swing, my club face never makes it back to the starting position. Meaning the ball goes nowhere it is intended.

What can I do to gain a full swing? What practice tips could anyone suggest I do to improve my full swing? Thank you in advance.

First, Welcome!

There is no way to tell what is going on with out seeing your swing. I would start a My Swing thread here, http://thesandtrap.com/forums/forum/13-member-swings/

Here is a thread on how to film your swing, http://thesandtrap.com/playing_tips/filming_your_swing

If I had to start with a few key threads it would be these. They should get you started in the right direction.

@AdamF

I agree with Matt. Start a My Swing thread. It will be very helpful. Don't be self conscious about it either. We all have things to work on to improve.

When you address the ball at setup, the back of your left hand is facing the target.  When you swing the club, at the point of impact, the back of your left hand must again face the target.  Work on a slowed down swing, making sure the back of your left hand is back to square at impact.  I use an impact bag for this.

Welcome  Adam - I'm in about the same boat - new to the forum in the last couple of weeks - the centered turn was such a gem for me - I average around a 95 and have posted an 89 and an 86 (my best round yet) working diligently on the centered turn. My back swing is longer - distances are up 10-15 yards and I've never felt compression like I've seen in the last two weeks - definitely a gem.

Thank you all for the great tips and advice. I am going to watch some videos, check out the other threads, and use the advice given to work on my swing.

I replied a few days ago and for some reason it didn't post from my phone. Again, than you all.

Great idea, AdamF. I would suggest also to stay with watching the videos suggested above (or all those by Dave and Erik). They are great instructors and know their stuff.

Also, avoid the error that I have fallen into time and time again by scouring the Internet for quick tips and videos. There is a lot of conflicting info and bad swing tips that can mess you up, while offering some quick fix.

Work on the one or two priority item that and stay with those until they are are ingrained. Only then, move forward. I only say this because I've made this mistake before and have gotten off track (never again, though). You'll enjoy the game more, with a steady improvement in your swing, if you stay with your priority item you should be working on. Best wishes for your game, Adam!

    • Day 323 - Opposite of yesterday, focusing more on taking a full backswing than anything else.
    • Day 139: worked on putting for a while. Did the two cups drill for bead.
    • It’s winter here and time hitting at my indoor place.  This year I bought and sold a few sets so I didn’t settle in on anything. For this coming season, starting now I have a choice to make.  What set would you guys use? 1.  Nike Vapor Pro irons - They are like new, hit them some last year before I had to demo other sets.  I love them, original grips, barely used so I’m almost not wanting to use them to keep their value up.  Standard LLL and standard grips. 2. Taylormade P7TW irons - Still in the box.  Got them over a year ago but had too much to hit, never used them.  Have used a set in the past and loved them.  Ended up with my own set custom fit to me -1/4”, 1 degree flat midsize grips.  These are probably not as valuable because they are still available and they are fit to me. I hate to put the Nikes away but it makes more sense to save them than the TW’s…. I dunno….
    • Day 215 (3 Dec 24) - Another very chilly day - opted to work on easy pitches in the backyard. Worked thru the irons and wedges - focused on foot position and tempo.
